Luxury Craftsmanship

For those who feel that dressing is an art, this belt is a masterpiece. Made from German leather of the finest quality, it has only been improved by the skilled hands of heritage artisans.

Each layer has been attentively cut and sewn for neat, elegant lines. Stitching is tight and dense for a refined appearance and unrivaled longevity, with 9 stitches per inch or 3.5 stitches per centimeter. A hot iron has even been used to impress the edges on this belt for even cleaner, razor-sharp edges, a treatment seen only on high-end, luxury belts.

We sought out only the most talented and skilled artisans to make these belts for us. As devotees of craft, we are marketing these belts to a discerning clientele that can appreciate skill and handiwork and are willing to invest in a belt that offers unparalleled durability, limitless versatility, and peerless beauty.

Burning Style

Set the World Aflame

Burnt umber is an earth tone consisting of reddish brown shades. Brown shades are one of the most popular colors for shoes in menswear, and red brown is one of the most favored for its warm hue and versatility.

Our particular iteration has a very warm, red tone that sets it apart without being jarring, meaning that it will pair harmoniously with a wide range of shoe leathers while maintaining its unique appearance.

This versatility is essential because, to be as stylish as possible, you should endeavor to match the leather of your shoes and belt.

Pairing Shoes and Trousers

When investing in your first pair of quality shoes, a red brown shade would be an excellent choice because of how easily this shade harmonizes with other colors.

Ensuring that your trousers complement your shoes is the first step in elegantly assembling the lower half of your outfit, and red brown pairs beautifully with many shades of blue, especially navy, and shades of grey, especially charcoal. It also looks elegant with bright shades like tan or stone, and shades of light brown.

You should not, however, pair your red brown shoes and belt with similarly brown trousers, because insufficient contrast can make your outfit appear muddy. We also suggest that you avoid red brown leathers with very dark shades like black, midnight blue, or dark grey.

Don't Forget The Buckle!

The warm tones of this brown belt will appear especially striking with a gold buckle, which can also lend it a more casual air. A silver buckle will be more sedate and is therefore a suitable option for more formal occasions.

Superior Belts

It Starts with the Cows

The leather for this belt was made from hides harvested in Germany from Alpine cows. Because they grazed in pastures with a colder climate, these cows were less likely to be bitten by bugs, meaning that their hides have considerably fewer blemishes than those from cows that lived in insect-dense regions.

A Legacy of Excellence

The hides are then tanned in a family-owned, heritage German tannery that has been in operation for over 130 years. Through the generations this tannery has developed unique approaches to leather production that create gorgeous leather that is truly unrivaled.

For instance, it is a house rule that this tannery only works with leather cut from the shoulder of the cow. The shoulder cut is well-suited to leather belts because it has a grain and overall dermal consistency that doesn't warp, stretch, or crease even when under constant flex.

Because of where on the shoulder this leather is harvested from, a light streak or rippling may be visible in the leather. This is not a defect, but an essential part of the natural allure of this untreated, open-pore aniline-dyed leather.

Informed by Nature

With an eye towards sustainability, this tannery privileges traditional, natural methodologies that are consistent with environmental protection. These traditional processes are part of the legacy of knowledge, skill, and experience that has been passed down through the generations.

This tannery only creates vegetable-tanned leathers. The tanning process utilizes natural ingredients, including tannins derived from oak bark. The skins are greased with natural fats, which are not only better for the environment but also impart a warm, pleasant feel to the finished leather.

Care Instructions

  • Due to an intensive dyeing process and the unique blend of waxes that protect their finish, our belts require minimum care.
  • To keep the belt supple and shining, we recommend applying once every six months to a year a thin coat of clear quality shoe or leather cream.
  • We suggest avoiding shoe polishes, as they can come off on your clothes or appear cracked if excess is applied to the belt's surface.

Cleaning Instructions

  • If your belt becomes dirty or soiled, first wipe down the stained area with a clean cotton or microfiber cloth dampened with a small amount of water. Allow the area to then dry fully.
  • If the stain persists, you can apply a small amount of a quality leather cleaning solution, following all listed instructions.
  • If your belt leather is ever nicked or damaged, apply a colored polish that matches your belt color over the damage area. Immediately wipe away any excess, and then polish the area with a cotton cloth.

Storage Instructions

  • When not in regular use store your belts in a cool, dry place to prevent the leather from drying out or the color from fading.
  • We prefer to store our belts hanging loosely from a belt rack or hook.
  • If so desired, belts can be stored in a loose roll.
  • Do not tightly roll your belt as doing so can cause the formation of creases.

How to Remove Creases

  • If properly sized and cared for, this belt should not develop creases.
  • If creases do develop, apply a leather cream to the affected area, following all listed instructions.
  • We recommend utilizing a quality leather cream made with natural ingredients like mink, neatsfoot, or coconut oil, or beeswax.

  • Each belt features five diamond-shaped holes for the prong.
  • These holes are spaced about 2.5 cm / 1" apart
  • Please note that if you pin the belt through its last hole, it can accommodate waists of an additional 5cm / 2", although we do not recommend wearing the belt in this way as it can appear distended or stubby.

Cutting Your Belt to Size

  • Our belts are designed to be cut down to size from their unfinished edge so that they fit you perfectly. We offer individual sizing to reduce waste where possible.
  • Try the uncut belt on for size to determine exactly where you want to cut it.
  • Cut the belt down to size using sharp scissors or a sharp knife.
  • If you are not sure about your size, you can always buy the longest belt and cut more of it down.

Why invest in the Fort Belvedere Belt System?

Well-made belts are often extremely expensive, but also extremely particular: conventional belts come in one color with one type of metal buckle, severely limiting the versatility of the belt and its ability to function with multiple outfits and shoes. In order to properly harmonize with your entire wardrobe, you might be compelled to buy almost a dozen belts in various combinations of belt leathers and buckles.

Fort Belvedere has solved this problem with our Exchangeable Belt System. Now, you can enjoy belts of the highest quality that have the flexibility of an interchangeable buckle system, making pairing with shoes and metals a breeze.

For example, during a trip, packing three Fort Belvedere belts and three buckles will allow you to create combinations that are equivalent to having packed nine belts, all at a fraction of the cost and the space needed for packing.

Each belt is crafted to exact specification, with a thickness of 4.3 mm and a width of 29 mm. These dimensions were specifically selected to slot perfectly into our belt buckles, ensuring no premature wear from a poor fit. The thickness of the leather is controlled to ensure durability and a tight, strong connection with the buckle at all times.

The prong system for attaching and detaching the buckle from the belt is simple and intuitive. The buckle is held firmly in place but can be removed with ease, so swapping buckles is never a hassle.

Our Exchangeable Belt System is also completely future-proof, so you can feel secure in knowing that any future belts or buckles we release will be fully compatible with the current system. And if you have already purchased our belt buckles, they will be fully compatible with our new belts. As our collection grows, you will have even more options for expanding and diversifying your belt and buckle collection.

Details & Specs

  • Exceptional Bovine Leather

A belt of this quality demands quality leather, and that is why we sourced only premium-grade hides from the finest breeders in Europe and sent them exclusively to heritage tanneries that produce artisanal-grade leather.

  • Vibrant Leather Color

The shimmering color of this belt has been made to last. An attentive dyeing process ensures a rich, deep color and thanks to finishing with natural waxes, that color intensity is permanently preserved. As a result, you won't need to constantly apply to your belt colored polishes or creams that could come off on your clothes.

  • Patinas Beautifully

Because we avoid relying on chemical agents and corrective treatments to artificially improve the appearance of our leathers, this accessory will naturally develop a patina as you use it. As the years go by, it will only grow more beautiful with age as every little scuff and scratch is subsumed into the leather, becoming a decorative element that imparts personality on the leather and truly makes it your own.

  • Part of an Exchangable Belt System

You will no longer need to buy half a dozen belts and carry them around everywhere to effortlessly match your leathers and metals. This belt is part of our Exchangeable Belt System. Each belt is sold individually without a buckle. You can select any of our Fort Belvedere buckles and purchase it separately to start building a collection of belts and buckles that can be combined in a multitude of ways, offering a variety of belt styling options at a fraction of the cost.

  • Convenient Clip On/Off Level System

Interchangeable belt buckles should never have clunky hardware that is ugly and obvious, nor should swapping them out be a time-consuming hassle. A hallmark of Fort Belvedere buckles is that they have the same refined detailing and low profile of conventional belt buckles, but with the added benefit of interchangeability. A discreet but durable solid brass lever allows you to easily slip the buckle off of one belt and onto another. When locked in place, the lever activates three sturdy teeth that ensure a secure, comfortable fit. No special tools or excessive force is required to remove the buckle, and the entire operation takes about three seconds thanks to our smart clip system.

  • Flexible Sizing

According to conventional knowledge, your belt size is approximately two sizes larger than your trouser size. In reality, however, even if belts are sized in centimeters or inches, you cannot tell if they will actually fit you without trying them on, because the location of the belt holes and buckles varies based on manufacturer.

Even if a fixed-length belt fits you when it is purchased, these belts rarely have much give in sizing to account for fluctuations in weight. Therefore, if you lose or gain weight, the belt becomes effectively useless.

By cutting the belt down so that the belt buckles at the middle hole, you will have sufficient leeway in the event of minor fluctuations in weight. In the event of considerable weight loss, the belt can be easily cut down to account for your new weight. In the event of considerable weight gain, you will need to purchase a new belt, but all of the buckles will function with your new belt, reducing the overall cost to you.

  • A Belt Built to Last

Unlike other cheap belts, this belt won't become excessively creased, nicked, torn, or even fall apart after a few years of wear. We've ensured the best leathers and most meticulous construction processes to craft a belt that will last for decades with correct treatment and proper care. Like all Fort Belvedere products, this leather belt is an investment that we want you to enjoy for years to come.

  • Crease-Resisting Saffiano Leather Layer

To save money, most belt makers will use inferior suede as the lining for their belts. Because of its tacky texture, however, suede clings to fabric and can stick to your clothing when you try to remove the belt. High-end belt makers often use the same leather for the shell as the lining, but leathers that are suitable for the exterior of belts, like nappa, will wrinkle and crease because the interior circumference of the belt is smaller than the exterior circumference, putting the delicate inner leather under constant strain.

To resolve these issues, Fort Belvedere utilizes Saffiano leather, with its iconic crinkled texture, sourced from an Italian tannery that specializes in this unique leather type. Many companies use Saffiano leather on the exterior of their leather products, because of its unique look, but we realized that the structure of Saffiano leather was actually ideal for the interior. Saffiano leather is smooth enough to ensure no difficulty when putting it on or taking it off, and the natural ridges in the leather resist the development of unsightly wrinkles or creasing, as the leather is already wavy. Saffiano is, therefore, the perfect leather for belt lining.

  • Two Layer Construction

While three-layer construction is typically a sign of a superior belt, occasionally, the leather employed can truly cause "three to be a crowd," with three layers becoming excessively bulky. The full-grain bovine hide used as the shell layer for this belt is so thick that an additional leather core would be superfluous. This belt is therefore constructed with a single shell leather of open-pore, aniline dyed cow leather and a lining layer of Saffiano leather.

  • Diamond-Shaped Belt Holes

Every detail of this belt has been carefully considered, even the belt holes! We opted for a diamond shape not only because it was more visually interesting but also because it was more functional. The wider edges make it easier for the prongs of the buckle to pass through so the belt can be put on and taken off with ease. This more accommodating shape also means that the prong puts less stress on the leather, reducing unnecessary wear and creasing.

  • Signature Fort Belvedere Taper

You'll notice on this all-leather accessory a gently mitered edge. These rounded edges serve a practical purpose, as they prevent premature wear, but they are also a subtle stylistic hallmark of the Fort Belvedere leather goods line. Many of our leather pieces have this featured integrated into their design, highlighting the collection as an intentional whole and giving your appearance a rarefied bespoke effect when you pair multiple Fort Belvedere leather goods.

  • Painted Belt Edges

While folded edges can ensure durability, they often do so with belts at the cost of additional bulkiness and an inelegant appearance. Therefore, we opted instead to employ edge painting on these belts to impart durability and longevity along with a refined smooth hand and charming slim appearance. With five layers of edge painting, this special dressing will not rub with regular wear and tear and will maintain the beautiful appearance of your belt.

  • Durable Convex Body

All of our Fort Belvedere belts feature bodies formed into a convex shape. This shape, typical of a "raised belt," can either be formed by shaping a thick outer layer of cowhide leather into a convex shape or by layering a thin shell leather around a convex leather core. In addition to being visually pleasing, this shape reinforces the strength of the belt without adding unnecessary bulk. The result is a flexible, pliable belt that won't become lank or stretched out with age.

  • Discreet Branding

Our understated Fort Belvedere crest is tastefully debossed on the rear of the belt into the Saffiano leather. This logo and branding information is then lightly coated in silver foil for a beautiful luster-on-matte effect.
