Luxury Craftsmanship

Dressing up requires dressing well, and that requires a true dress belt. Crafted from the supplest and softest calf leather, this elegant and refined belt took shape under the attentive hands of truly dedicated artisans.

Experience the epitome of craftsmanship with our belt, where every layer is meticulously cut and sewn to create sleek, elegant lines. The stitching is not just tight; it's expertly dense, boasting 9 stitches per inch or 3.5 per centimeter for a refined look and unmatched durability. A hot iron has even been used to press the edges, achieving razor-sharp precision—a technique reserved for the finest luxury belts. Elevate your style with this exceptional piece, designed to last and impress.

We partnered with the most talented artisans to create these exceptional belts. As true craft enthusiasts, we're proud to offer these belts to discerning clients who value skill and craftsmanship. Invest in a belt that promises unmatched durability, endless versatility, and unrivaled beauty; invest in a Fort Belvedere belt.

Three lengths of black belts

A Formal Belt

For Elevated Occasions

With the subdued shine of its black boxcalf leather and its clear, even finish, this belt is designed to be paired with sumptuous black shoes, especially wholecuts, oxfords, upscale derbies, and similar dress shoes. This formality is emphasized by the subtle tone-on-tone thread employed for this belt.

Black is the quintessential choice for men's formal dress shoes, exuding a refined and dignified elegance that complements nearly every color. Unlike other hues, black remains consistent without significant shade variations, allowing a black belt to seamlessly pair with footwear across the formality spectrum—from sleek black leather sneakers to business staples like brogues, and even the most formal captoes.

In the realm of menswear, black is timeless. While it may not harmonize with every shade as effortlessly as some other leathers, it rarely clashes with any color. Black shoes are among the few that pair impeccably with black socks and trousers, perfect for occasions demanding the utmost formality.

Don't Forget The Buckle!

To elevate this classic black belt, we recommend investing in both silver and gold buckles. The gleam of these metals offers a sophisticated touch, adding variety to this otherwise understated leather.

If you own black shoes, our Fort Belvedere belt is the ideal companion. You can be sure that you are investing in a belt crafted to exceptional standards, designed to endure and improve with age.

The Most Elegant Belt

The Finest Raw Materials

The hides for this belt come exclusively from calves. Calf skin is superior to cowhide in every way when it comes to belt leather, thanks to its exceptionally soft touch, dazzling grain appearance, and durable flexibility.

Furthermore, because these calves are raised in the colder climate of the Alps, there are fewer pests to bite their hides, meaning that the final hide has fewer blemishes.

From these hides, only the choicest sections of the croupon, or bend, of the hide are actually used. The croupon corresponds roughly to the central and lower back of the calf, excluding the spine area, because this section of skin affords the smoothest, softest, and most consistent leathers.

Made in a Heritage Tannery

The hide is then prepared in the same tannery employed by several high-end fashion houses, but that's not why we picked the tannery. We were attracted to the deep, consistent color imparted by an intensive aniline-dyeing process. This leather has open pores so as the belt ages it will develop a unique and gorgeous patina that will make it feel and look all your own.

The leather finish is then protected through the use of proprietary waxes. These waxes even impart a water resistance to the leather, reducing the likelihood of staining or water damage as liquids pearl off of the surface.

We also appreciate that this tannery has been in operation for decades and we value their artisanal dedication to craft and the collective knowledge and experience of their craftsman workforce.

Truly Sublime Leather

This exclusive approach to leather production has created a truly exclusive leather. With a slightly shiny finish, delectably smooth hand, and incredible longevity, this leather is ideal for formal dress belts.

  • The length to the middle hole is about 95 cm / 37.4"

  • The length to the middle hole is about 105 cm / 41.3"

Long Belts

  • This belt is sized for wearers with waists of up to 114 cm / 45"
  • The belt itself is at least 130 cm / 50.5" long
  • The length to the middle hole is about 115 cm / 45.25"

Additional Information

  • Each belt is about 4.3 mm / 4/24" thick.
  • Each belt is about 29 mm / 1" wide.
  • Each belt weighs between 90 and 120 grams / 3 to 4.2 ounces.
  • Each belt features five diamond-shaped holes for the prong.
  • These holes are spaced about 2.5 cm / 1" apart
  • Please note that if you pin the belt through its last hole, it can accommodate waists of an additional 5cm / 2", although we do not recommend wearing the belt in this way as it can appear distended or stubby.

Cutting Your Belt to Size

  • Our belts are designed to be cut down to size from their unfinished edge so that they fit you perfectly. We offer individual sizing to reduce waste where possible.
  • Try the uncut belt on for size to determine exactly where you want to cut it.
  • Cut the belt down to size using sharp scissors or a sharp knife.
  • If you are not sure about your size, you can always buy the longest belt and cut more of it down.

Care Instructions

  • Due to an intensive dyeing process and the unique blend of waxes that protect their finish, our belts require minimum care.
  • To keep the belt supple and shining, we recommend applying once every six months to a year a thin coat of clear quality shoe or leather cream.
  • We suggest avoiding shoe polishes, as they can come off on your clothes or appear cracked if excess is applied to the belt's surface.

Cleaning Instructions

  • If your belt becomes dirty or soiled, first wipe down the stained area with a clean cotton or microfiber cloth dampened with a small amount of water. Allow the area to then dry fully.
  • If the stain persists, you can apply a small amount of a quality leather cleaning solution, following all listed instructions.
  • If your belt leather is ever nicked or damaged, apply a colored polish that matches your belt color over the damage area. Immediately wipe away any excess, and then polish the area with a cotton cloth.

Storage Instructions

  • When not in regular use store your belts in a cool, dry place to prevent the leather from drying out or the color from fading.
  • We prefer to store our belts hanging loosely from a belt rack or hook.
  • If so desired, belts can be stored in a loose roll.
  • Do not tightly roll your belt as doing so can cause the formation of creases.

How to Remove Creases

  • If properly sized and cared for, this belt should not develop creases.
  • If creases do develop, apply a leather cream to the affected area, following all listed instructions.
  • We recommend utilizing a quality leather cream made with natural ingredients like mink, neatsfoot, or coconut oil, or beeswax.

Why invest in the Fort Belvedere Belt System?

Well-crafted belts often come with a significant price tag and limited options, typically offering just one color and one type of metal buckle. This restricts their versatility, compelling you to acquire numerous belts to perfectly complement various outfits and shoes. To truly harmonize with your entire wardrobe, you might feel the need to invest in a dozen belts in diverse combinations of leathers and buckles.

Fort Belvedere has elegantly addressed this dilemma with our Exchangeable Belt System. Revel in the luxury of belts that boast the highest quality, paired with the ingenious flexibility of an interchangeable buckle system. This innovation allows seamless pairing with an array of shoes and metals, effortlessly elevating your style without the necessity for multiple belts.

Imagine the convenience: during a journey, packing three Fort Belvedere belts and three buckles grants you the versatility of nine distinct belts, all at a fraction of the cost and space required for packing. Each belt is meticulously crafted to precise specifications, with a thickness of 4.3 mm and a width of 29 mm, ensuring a flawless fit with our buckles and preventing premature wear.

The prong system for attaching and detaching the buckle is both intuitive and sophisticated. The buckle remains securely in place yet can be effortlessly swapped, ensuring that changing buckles is never a hassle.

Our Exchangeable Belt System is designed to be future-proof, providing peace of mind that any future belts or buckles we release will be fully compatible with the current system. And if you have already purchased our belt buckles, they will be fully compatible with our new belts. As our collection expands, you will enjoy even more options for enhancing and diversifying your belt and buckle collection.

Details & Specs

A black dress belt worn with houndstooth trousers and a blue jacket
  • Superlative Calf Skin

Most belts on the market today use cow hide, because the skins are available in larger sizes at lower costs. Calfskin, however, is superior to cowhide in every way when it comes to belt leather, thanks to its exceptionally soft touch, dazzling grain appearance, and durable flexibility. Unlike other belt makers, we never market inferior cowhide as “top grain” leather.

  • Three Layer Construction

The overwhelming majority of belts available today are made from a single strip of cowhide. This simple construction is cheap and easy to do, but it produces an inferior belt that wrinkles easily, dents, and often falls apart even after normal wear. Higher-end belts are often made with two layers, a lining and a shell, and while this improves the overall quality of the belt, it still does not offer the best possible results. This belt has been made with three layers, featuring a shell, lining, and leather core made from durable bull hide. This triple-construction helps the leather maintain its shape for the longest possible time, and reduces the appearance of unsightly wrinkles, creases, or dents.

  • A Belt Built to Last

Unlike other cheap belts, this belt won't become excessively creased, nicked, torn, or even fall apart after a few years of wear. We've ensured the best leathers and most meticulous construction processes to craft a belt that will last for decades with correct treatment and proper care. Like all Fort Belvedere products, this leather belt is an investment that we want you to enjoy for years to come.

  • Durable Convex Body

All of our Fort Belvedere belts feature bodies formed into a convex shape. This shape, typical of a "raised belt," can either be formed by shaping a thick outer layer of cowhide leather into a convex shape or by layering a thin shell leather around a convex leather core. In addition to being visually pleasing, this shape reinforces the strength of the belt without adding unnecessary bulk. The result is a flexible, pliable belt that won't become lank or stretched out with age.

  • Painted Belt Edges

While folded edges can ensure durability, they often do so with belts at the cost of additional bulkiness and an inelegant appearance. Therefore, we opted instead to employ edge painting on these belts to impart durability and longevity along with a refined smooth hand and charming slim appearance. With five layers of edge painting, this special dressing will not rub with regular wear and tear and will maintain the beautiful appearance of your belt.

  • Vibrant Leather Color

The shimmering color of this belt has been made to last. An attentive dyeing process ensures a rich, deep color and thanks to finishing with natural waxes, that color intensity is permanently preserved. As a result, you won't need to constantly apply to your belt colored polishes or creams that could come off on your clothes.

  • Part of an Exchangable Belt System

You will no longer need to buy half a dozen belts and carry them around everywhere to effortlessly match your leathers and metals. This belt is part of our Exchangeable Belt System. Each belt is sold individually without a buckle. You can select any of our Fort Belvedere buckles and purchase it separately to start building a collection of belts and buckles that can be combined in a multitude of ways, offering a variety of belt styling options at a fraction of the cost.

  • Convenient Clip On/Off Level System

Interchangeable belt buckles should never have clunky hardware that is ugly and obvious, nor should swapping them out be a time-consuming hassle. A hallmark of Fort Belvedere buckles is that they have the same refined detailing and low profile of conventional belt buckles, but with the added benefit of interchangeability. A discreet but durable solid brass lever allows you to easily slip the buckle off of one belt and onto another. When locked in place, the lever activates three sturdy teeth that ensure a secure, comfortable fit. No special tools or excessive force is required to remove the buckle, and the entire operation takes about three seconds thanks to our smart clip system.

  • Flexible Sizing

According to conventional knowledge, your belt size is approximately two sizes larger than your trouser size. In reality, however, even if belts are sized in centimeters or inches, you cannot tell if they will actually fit you without trying them on, because the location of the belt holes and buckles varies based on manufacturer.

Even if a fixed-length belt fits you when it is purchased, these belts rarely have much give in sizing to account for fluctuations in weight. Therefore, if you lose or gain weight, the belt becomes effectively useless.

By cutting the belt down so that the belt buckles at the middle hole, you will have sufficient leeway in the event of minor fluctuations in weight. In the event of considerable weight loss, the belt can be easily cut down to account for your new weight. In the event of considerable weight gain, you will need to purchase a new belt, but all of the buckles will function with your new belt, reducing the overall cost to you.

  • Crease-Resisting Saffiano Leather Layer

To save money, most belt makers will use inferior suede as the lining for their belts. Because of its tacky texture, however, suede clings to fabric and can stick to your clothing when you try to remove the belt. High-end belt makers often use the same leather for the shell as the lining, but leathers that are suitable for the exterior of belts, like nappa, will wrinkle and crease because the interior circumference of the belt is smaller than the exterior circumference, putting the delicate inner leather under constant strain.

To resolve these issues, Fort Belvedere utilizes Saffiano leather, with its iconic crinkled texture, sourced from an Italian tannery that specializes in this unique leather type. Many companies use Saffiano leather on the exterior of their leather products, because of its unique look, but we realized that the structure of Saffiano leather was actually ideal for the interior. Saffiano leather is smooth enough to ensure no difficulty when putting it on or taking it off, and the natural ridges in the leather resist the development of unsightly wrinkles or creasing, as the leather is already wavy. Saffiano is, therefore, the perfect leather for belt lining.

  • Diamond-Shaped Belt Holes

Every detail of this belt has been carefully considered, even the belt holes! We opted for a diamond shape not only because it was more visually interesting but also because it was more functional. The wider edges make it easier for the prongs of the buckle to pass through so the belt can be put on and taken off with ease. This more accommodating shape also means that the prong puts less stress on the leather, reducing unnecessary wear and creasing.

  • Signature Fort Belvedere Taper

You'll notice on this all-leather accessory a gently mitered edge. These rounded edges serve a practical purpose, as they prevent premature wear, but they are also a subtle stylistic hallmark of the Fort Belvedere leather goods line. Many of our leather pieces have this featured integrated into their design, highlighting the collection as an intentional whole and giving your appearance a rarefied bespoke effect when you pair multiple Fort Belvedere leather goods.

  • Discreet Branding

Our understated Fort Belvedere crest is tastefully debossed on the rear of the belt into the Saffiano leather. This logo and branding information is then lightly coated in silver foil for a beautiful luster-on-matte effect.
