(Translated from the original German) I got this ascot as an alternative to a bow tie or tie. The color makes it the ideal addition to my wardrobe (more blue and green tones). The workmanship of the fabric is really good and feels very comfortable on the skin. I'm currently thinking about buying more copies. Precisely because these patterns and Ascots in general are no longer so easy to find. The price is definitely justified for the quality.

Why You Should Wear a Day Ascot

Day ascots are an excellent way to look put-together and elegant without being overly formal in an increasingly casual world. They also attract attention because of their rarity and can be a fantastic conversation starter. Because it is worn with an open collar, a day ascot is also a great alternative if it is an especially warm day or if you do not like tight collars around your neck but do not wish to forgo neckwear entirely.

Day ascots can also effortlessly elevate any ensemble and make it appear much more dressy and, at the same time, relaxed, giving you the best of both worlds. Day ascots can be worn on a variety of occasions and are suitable for many casual dress codes. For any outfit you might wear without a tie, you can add a day ascot to add flair to your look.

Although they are a type of cravat, day ascots are decidedly less formal than neckties or bow ties. Accordingly, while they can be worn in casual or some creative office environments, they are likely not appropriate for most formal professional business settings because of their casual style.

Romance in Mauve

Art Deco Allure

In a forgotten corner of an old shop, Raphael stumbled upon a vintage tie with a pattern that hinted at tales of a bygone era. Captivated by its allure, he set out to weave its mystery into our Fort Belvedere collection. Using that same pattern, this ascot, with its rich mauve backdrop, is adorned with an enigmatic array of cut-corner tiles in cool purples and blues. These jewel-tone hues echo the opulence of the Golden Age of Menswear and this decadent article can serve you perfectly as either a dapper statement piece or an understated, elegant accessory.

When To Wear an Ascot

Ascots thrive as a necktie or bow tie alternative for casual occasions in warmer weather thanks to their unique blend of dapper sophistication and effortless comfort. Wearing an ascot elevates an outfit, adding a touch of elegance without being overly formal.

In warmer weather, ascots are particularly appealing because they are less constricting than a tie, allowing for better airflow and comfort. When made from lightweight materials like our Fort Belvedere silk, they are breathable and perfect for keeping cool while still looking polished.

When it is cooler, ascots provide natural insulation and function similarly to a scarf, ensuring that body heat is not lost through an open shirt.

An ascot reflects a sense of individuality and confidence, as it's not a common choice in modern menswear. By choosing an ascot, you can express your personal style while maintaining the timeless elegance associated with classic menswear.

How To Style This Ascot

Because the body of this ascot is a dignified mauve, and its pattern is visually interesting but not obtrusive, you can confidently wear this article with almost any casual ensemble in a kaleidoscopic range of colors.

For a more formal appearance, wear a darker jacket that will tone down the cool red tones in this mauve ascot. To make a bold statement, opt for a lighter colored jacket; doing so makes this ascot the center of attention and helps each and every one of its many colors to pop beautifully.

Although ascots can be worn with just a shirt, we find that they are generally more elegant when paired with a sport coat or blazer. Opting for a jacket in a textured weave that will contrast with the smooth madder silk of this ascot - such as linen, flannel, or a worsted wool - has an especially dapper effect.

The Finest Silk in the World

Sourcing Superior Silk Fabric

Silk has long been heralded as a superior material choice when it comes to neckwear. Its silky texture encourages clean lines, it takes dyes with minimal bleeding, and its tight weave ensures a refined and classic drape. As with any luxury product, however, a products origins are everything.

That is why we source our silk fabrics from only the finest heritage houses in Europe, primarily in England and Italy. The craftsmen of these nations have developed a reputation for silk production that goes back millennia, and to this day, we insist up working with only the finest artisans in this field.

Impeccable Workmanship

When it came to crafting this exceptional fabric into neckwear, however, we made a fascinating discovery: when comparing products made by artisans across the world, it was in a tucked-away workshop in Vietnam that we found the most precise stitching, the most extensive handiwork, and the best overall product.

We believe that results should speak for themselves, which is how this little facility won out on our contract over factories in England, Italy, and even Germany.

Sizing Your Ascot

Unlike neckties and bow ties, ascots are sold "one size fits all." This can be an issue with cheaper ascots, because manufacturers, to save money on fabric, will make the neck band very short, making it uncomfortable or impossible for larger people or those with thick necks to wear their ascots.

At Fort Belvedere, we determined the perfect size for our ascots to fit every neck but not to have excessive and billowy fabric. Our ascots have neckbands of sufficient length to sit comfortably and to be tied in various ways without appearing odd or awkward.

Care

Cleaning

If your ascot becomes stained, it can be spot cleaned with a mild detergent suitable for silks.

Make a mixture of tepid water and the detergent and gently blot the stain with a clean cloth.

Allow the ascot to air dry flat.

Pressing

If your ascot begins to develop wrinkles, gently steam the wrinkles out with a garment steamer on its lowest heat setting. Avoid ironing your ascots, because the flat edge of the iron and the localized heat can ruin the delicately turned edges of the ascot.

Storage

Similar to a necktie, attentive storing of your ascot will prevent unnecessary wrinkling or damage. Ascots should be loosely hung up or stored and laid down flat. Take care to ensure that no part of the ascot is excessively twisted or crumpled.

What makes this day ascot from Fort Belvedere so special?

Ascots, also known as cravats, will make the perfect addition to your wardrobe because of the very particular sartorial niche they fill: a neckwear piece that is rakishly casual but effortlessly elegant, able to add an unforgettable savor to any ensemble.

Once you have built out a solid foundation of neckties and bow ties, ascots should be the next step in your style journey.

Casual Ascots immediately bring to mind the dashing film stars, playboys, and rakes of the Early Golden Age of Menswear. They signify someone who has developed a unique personal style and can now experiment with bolder accessories. No matter what your style is, a casual ascot can be incorporated into your outfits, whether you prefer a recklessly casual and jaunty look or a more put-together and plush look.

Details & Specs

Ascot in Dark Blue, Buff, Red Macclesfield Silk Fort Belvedere with boutonniere lapel pin for casual elegance
  • The Highest Quality Silk

Silk is a top choice for neckwear due to its smooth texture, vibrant dye absorption, and refined drape. While we source our silk from renowned heritage houses in England and Italy, known for their centuries-old craftsmanship, our search for the best neckwear led us to a workshop in Vietnam. There, we discovered unmatched precision in stitching and craftsmanship, surpassing even the renowned factories in England, Italy, and Germany. This Vietnamese facility's superior results earned them our contract, proving that quality speaks for itself.

  • Ascot Patterns Inspired by the Golden Age of Menswear

Macclesfield neats, paisley, diamonds, fancy tiles: all of these patterns bedecked the ascots worn by the clotheshorses and dapper dandies of yesterday, and today, you can revive them with perennial style. In addition to catching the eye with their elegant and classic forms, these patterns also allow for the introduction of additional colorways to make harmonizing even more shades within your ensemble as easy as the breezy wafts you'll enjoy when wearing this ascot.

  • Each Color Printed by Hand

When printing ascots using a traditional madder technique, it is necessary to reprint the entire article as many times as there are colors, adding each color as a distinct layer with each printing. Obviously, multiple printings allow for the possibility of errors or mistakes, necessitating exacting quality assurance standards. The result, however, is a hand-printed ascot with beautiful and versatile colorways that will ensure that you stand out from the crowd. Only a handful of modern silk printers possess the skills needed to operate traditional silk screens and Fort Belvedere sources its fabric from a heritage English company that produces only the highest quality printed fabrics.

  • Self-Tying Ascot

Many contemporary ascots are modified to be easier to tie, but these modifications spoil the timeless lines and drape of the truly classic ascots. At Fort Belvedere, all of our ascots are designed according to time-tested, vintage patterns and are intended to be tied by hand, allowing you to personally craft the perfect look and the ideal knot for any situation.

  • Diagonally Cut on the Bias

Because it has been cut at 45º on the bias, this product features a diagonal ribbed grosgrain structure that imparts a unique body and subtle flair. While this process does require additional fabric, it offers a superior accessory that stands out for its subtle detailing and obvious attention to craftsmanship.
