Almost all ties are way too long for me. Finally found Fort Belvedere who offers ties in various sizes. I can now tie any knot I want, and feel confident I'm not looking silly will an excessively long tie. The hand-rolled tips also add a really nice touch.

Parlay the Power of Polka Dots

Polka dots have been a mainstay of Classic Menswear since their introduction in the 19th century. Combining whimsy with wonder and daring with dignity, few patterns offer so many opportunities for unique color pairings in an unexpected way.

The beauty of polka dots is how they lend themselves easily to various two and three-color combinations. While white spots help to bring the white of a shirt forward, dots in other colors can help to bridge the various elements of your outfit in creative ways. For example, you could leverage the dots on a tie or pocket square to bring in a harder-to-wear color like yellow.

Elevate Polka Dots with Yellow

Fun and whimsical, polka dots can nevertheless be formal as well when the time is right and the correct colors are in play. We wanted to afford you the greatest latitude for styling when designing this tie, so we opted for a very formal shade of yellow paired with red. The result is a tie that can be worn up or down the Formality Scale based on the other colors with which it is paired.

For a bright and cheerful look, combine yellow with complementary colors like blue or purple. For a more subdued and sophisticated appearance, pair yellow with neutral tones such as white, gray, or beige. Additionally, yellow and green create a fresh and vibrant combination.

Pair it with a crisp white dress shirt and a navy or charcoal gray suit for a striking contrast that remains elegant and sophisticated. The red polka dots add a playful element, making the tie suitable for both formal and semi-formal occasions.

For a more casual yet polished look, consider combining the tie with a light blue or pale pink shirt and a beige or brown blazer. This combination creates a harmonious and visually appealing outfit that stands out without being too loud. Complete the ensemble with brown leather shoes and a matching belt for a well-coordinated and stylish appearance.

Sized To Fit You

Almost all retailers sell their ties as one-size-fits-all. A handful offer neckties that are either longer or shorter. At Fort Belvedere, we cater to the needs of every man, whether of modest, average, or above-average height, which is why we are proud to offer neckties in three distinct sizes.

The dimensions of our neckties are proportional to your height.

SHORT: For those who are 5’8” or 173 cm or shorter.

REGULAR: For those between 5'9" or 175 cm and 6'2" or 188 cm.

LONG: For those who are 6’3” or 190 cm or taller.

If you prefer to wear trousers with a higher rise and are in-between sizes, it may be better to size down so that the necktie does not fall below your waistband when tied.

Available Self-Tipped or Untipped

Based on size, some of our ties are Self-Tipped or Untipped.

Self-tipped ties have a lining as part of their tips. The overwhelming majority of tie makers use a less expensive fabric for the tip in a bid to save money, but doing so compromises on the look and the functionality of the tie. All self-tipped Fort Belvedere ties feature a generous piece of lining in the same fabric as the tie’s body for a consistent, quality-made look and feel that is in keeping with traditional self-tipped tie construction.

Fort Belvedere also offers untipped ties in which the tips are carefully hand-rolled for a beautiful look and secure finish that requires more skill to achieve than a self-tipped tie. Because they have less fabric, untipped ties are also lighter. Untipped ties were very popular in the 1930s, and as a tribute to the styling conventions of that era, Fort Belvedere untipped ties have a vintage flared end.

Sensationally Soft Wool Challis

First popularized in the 19th century, the fine hand and muted colors of wool challis has made it a hit with stylish gentlemen ever since! The term challis is derived from the Anglo-Indian word "Shalee", which means soft. When this soft fabric was first introduced in Norwich, England in 1832, it was an immediate hit and quickly became a preferred fabric of the upper classes.

Today, wool challis is worn with both warm and cool weather ensembles and is a great alternative to madder silk or jacquard. Bright and bold colors add pop to casual outfits, while more sedate colors and patterns are perfectly acceptable as part of more formal business wear.

Care

Cleaning

Wool challis neckwear should not be washed immersed in water as doing so can ruin the texture and color of the fabric. Instead, spot clean your neckwear using the following steps.

Gently blot any excess substance from the stain with a soft, dry cloth. Do not rub as this can damage the fabric.

Fill a small bowl with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild detergent specifically designed for wool, such as Woolite.

Dip a corner of a clean, white cloth into the solution and test it on a hidden area of the neckwear to ensure it doesn't cause discoloration.

If the test is successful, lightly dab the stained area with the dampened cloth. Use a gentle tapping motion and do not saturate the fabric.

Moisten another clean cloth with plain lukewarm water and gently dab the area to remove any soap residue. Pat the cleaned area with a dry cloth to absorb moisture, then leave the neckwear laid flat on a towel to air dry completely.

If the stain does not respond to the these steps, take the neckwear to a professional dry cleaner experienced in handling delicate accessories.

Storage

To prevent heavy creasing, never store your neckwear tied or knotted.

Undo the knot and then roll the necktie up in a firm but not excessively tight coil.

Allow it to sit in the coil for about a day to relax wrinkles.

To prevent wrinkles, store your neckwear hanging, flat, or in a very loose roll.

Details & Specs

Handmade English Wool Challis Tie in Burgundy with Yellow Polka Dots Fort Belvedere with Boutonniere
  • Decadent Wool Challis Fabric

Sourced from a heritage mill in England, this accessory is made from 100% wool challis. First popularized in the early 19th century, wool challis is a type of fabric that, despite being woven, has a soft and smooth texture. Its colors tend to be rich yet subdued, as opposed to vivid hues. While it is crafted from wool, challis distinguishes itself from the denser, heavier types of woolen textiles with its extremely plush and gentle hand.

  • Hand-Printed Wool Challis

Traditionally, wool challis fabric was hand-block printed, a labor-intensive process that is not economically feasible today. Instead, modern wool challis fabrics are screen printed. To capture the best of the old and the new methods, Fort Belvedere accessories are screen printed by hand, lending the production process an Old-World charm.

  • Dynamic Polka Dot Pattern

Polka dots have endured as a common pattern in Classic Menswear for centuries because they add a touch of personality and style without being overwhelming. The consistent, evenly spaced dots provide a subtle yet sophisticated visual interest that can easily be paired with other pieces in a man's wardrobe.

  • Handmade

Fort Belvedere ties are entirely sewn by hand, which gives them improved flexibility and designs that are functional as well as beautiful. This careful oversight allows us to offer exceptional products typified by the standards of Old World construction.

  • Available Tipped or Untipped

  • Perfectly Sized Ties

On formal occasions, every detail must be exactly correct, and this applies as well to the length of your neckwear. This necktie is available in three different sizes so that you can pick the necktie that is perfectly proportioned to you.

  • Signature 3-Ply Silk Yarn

Fort Belvedere uses sturdy 3-ply silk yarn in the hand sewing of our neckties, which gives the neckties improved wear and longevity. The thickness of the yarn makes the entire product more durable but thanks to the lightness of the material, no bulk is added.

  • 3-Fold Construction

Many ties are made with an unlined 6- or 7-fold construction that is soft and flimsy, causing lank, unappealing knots and a wrinkled tie. Fort Belvedere neckties are 3-fold constructed with a simple wool interlining, improving the overall structure and drape of the tie while allowing for fantastic knots. The discerning eye may notice the lining visible through the open pores, creating the impression of a solid tie with a sophisticated twist that will impress genuine clothing aficionados.
