Got the square today. I have multiple squares, almost all of which are high quality, but this one is especially good. It will likely be one of the squares I wear the most behind my standard white due to its versatility.

How to Style This Pocket Square

Utilizing unique and interesting folds imparts greater versatility, as well as debonair elegance, to your pocket square. Ensuring that your folds appear natural and unaffected will not only look more charming and nonchalant, but it will also be evident to others that you are not wearing a cheap, pre-folded pocket square.

For this particular pocket square, to accentuate the intricate embroidered cocktail detailing, we suggest that you opt for a fold that brings attention to its corner, such as the crown fold. Conversely, if you wish to draw focus to the white body of the pocket square, the puff fold is the ideal choice. Employing these folds allows the pocket square to serve a dual purpose, offering the versatility of two accessories in one.

While this pocket square can always be folded in such a way as to obscure the embroidered detailing, we consider this a disservice to the absolutely astounding attention to detail and craft illustrated by this embroidered cocktail. As a colorful accent, this cocktail embroidery provides unexpected visual interest and an impressive palette of colors with which to coordinate your entire outfit. It also provides a touch of whimsy to any fun ensemble that is sure to spark many delightful conversations, from a sport coat up to a velvet dinner jacket!

The Timeless Old Fashioned

Step into classic style with this refined white pocket square, crafted from premium Italian linen. Featuring a finely hand-embroidered old fashioned motif, this accessory is a tribute to one of the oldest and most beloved cocktails.

Originating in the early 19th century, the old fashioned has remained a staple in the world of mixology, celebrated for its simplicity and depth of flavor. Our pocket square captures the warm amber and orange tones of this legendary drink, adding a sophisticated touch to any ensemble.

This pocket square prominently showcases the embroidered old-fashioned. It brings warm hues of amber, burnt orange, and deep brown to your look. Complement these colors with attire or accessories in shades like classic navy, rich burgundy, earthy brown, deep green, or ivory. These combinations will elevate your style, adding a layer of vintage elegance and warmth.

How We Mix an Old Fashioned

To make a perfect old fashioned, muddle a sugar cube with a few dashes of Angostura bitters in a glass. Add 60 mL of bourbon or rye whiskey and a large ice cube. Stir gently and garnish with an orange twist and a cherry for a touch of sweetness and aroma.

The Fabric of Pharaohs: Linen

Linen has been a mainstay of classic menswear for years and employed generally since the time of the ancient Egyptians, being valued for its unique texture, breathability, and soft hand. Fort Belvedere sources the linen for all of our accessories from a heritage Italian mill specializing in producing only the finest examples of this versatile and refined fabric.

Italian linen is crafted to withstand time, making it a durable fabric that can last for years, even with frequent use. With its natural sheen and ability to drape beautifully, Italian linen exudes an air of sophistication and refinement that enhances any setting.

Linen is also an environmentally friendly choice; being a natural fiber, it is biodegradable. Also, the flax plant, from which linen is made, requires less water than other crops to cultivate.

Contrary to common belief, linen is relatively easy to care for, being able to withstand spot cleaning as needed and requiring only a quick iron or steam to quickly eliminate wrinkles.

Care

Cleaning

To protect its hand-rolled edges, we recommend that you not fully immerse your pocket square in water to clean it. Instead, create a solution of tepid water and mild detergent and carefully spot clean any stains.

Should your pocket square require more thorough cleaning, you can take it to a dry cleaner that specializes in handling delicate accessories. Remind them to be careful when cleaning around the handrolled edges.

Storage

Because it is so lightweight, linen as a fabric is naturally very prone to wrinkling. To reduce unnecessary wrinkling, always remove your linen pocket square from your pocket after wearing it.

Lay it flat in a cool, dry location for a few hours to allow the material to naturally relax and to avoid setting in any wrinkles or creases.

Removing Wrinkles

To remove wrinkles, use a garment steamer set to hot to work out the wrinkles. You can also use an iron set to the Linen setting with a piece of cotton cloth between the linen and the iron.

Lightly sprinkling the underside of the pocket square with water will help relax wrinkles more quickly.

Be sure to only iron the center of the pocket square and do not run your iron over the edges, as it could ruin the effect of the hand-rolled edges by flattening them.

Details & Specs

White Linen Pocket Square Aperol Spritz Embroidery and Handrolled Edges - Embroidery
  • Made from Pure Italian Linen

Linen is a decadent and functional fabric that has been employed in menswear for millennia. Fort Belvedere sourced this linen from an Italian mill. Compared to linen from, for instance, Ireland, Italian linen is generally softer and has a finer hand. Nevertheless, Italian linen is sufficiently crisp to hold folds well and not collapse down into your pocket.

  • Perfectly Sized for Linen

Most pocket squares are sized to get the largest number of pocket squares per yard of fabric. By not considering the unique qualities of the material as related to weight and weave, however, these accessories cannot function well as pocket squares.

Most linen squares are 43 cm x 43cm, or 17" x 17," in size. While they may work as handkerchiefs in the back pocket of your trousers, they are too big for the chest pocket and make the pockets appear overstuffed and bulky. The second most popular commercial size for linen pocket squares, 33 cm x 33 cm, or 13" x 13," is too small, allowing the pocket square to fall in on itself and disappear into your pocket over the course of the day.

By paying particular attention to the unique qualities of our linen, we were able to engineer a pocket square that functions perfectly. After extensive testing, we concluded that 35cm x 35 cm or 13.75" x" 13.75" was the perfect size for our Italian linen pocket squares.

  • Artisinal Italian Handiwork

In the great tradition of craft cottage industries, the detailing on these pocket squares was embroidered by hand by Italian artisans working on an extremely small scale of production. Many of these artisans are literally Italian grandmothers, or nonne, carrying on by-hand embroidery traditions that have been passed down through the generations.

  • Hide or Emphasize the Embroidery

When worn in a fold that obscures the borders of the pocket square, such as a puff fold, this pocket square appears to be a simple white linen pocket square suited to all occasions and formalities. By employing a fold that highlights the embroidered corner, however, you instantly display the hand-embroidered detailing, perfect for a night on the town, bachelor parties, or simply as a conversation started.
