Upon purchasing this pocket square, I soon realised that most people around me forgo the classic pocket square with their suit, this is truly a grave mistake. This pocket square is wonderful at adding that ever so understated elegance that truly elevates any ensemble. I find it to be of great use for my work attire where I am the only one on the entire premises wearing such an article, much less a proper one. The embroidery work is truly phenomenal, I cannot express how satisfied I am with how much this simple accessory adds to my outfits.

How to Style this Pocket Square

Utilizing unique and interesting folds imparts greater versatility, as well as debonair elegance, to your pocket square. Ensuring that your folds appear natural and unaffected will not only look more charming and nonchalant, but it will also be evident to others that you are not wearing a cheap, pre-folded pocket square.

For this particular pocket square, to accentuate the intricate embroidered initial detailing, we suggest that you opt for a fold that brings attention to its corner, such as the crown fold. Conversely, if you wish to draw focus to the white body of the pocket square, the puff fold is the ideal choice. Employing these folds allows the pocket square to serve a dual purpose, offering the versatility of two accessories in one.

Make Your Mark with Your "F" Monogram

Gentlemen have been tastefully monogramming their pocket squares for centuries. This was done both to help identify the wearer and to allow for the easy return of the pocket square should it be loaned out for temporary use, usually to a young lady.

This pocket square is tastefully embroidered on one corner with a capital letter "F" in a florid cursive script.

Historically, when a monogram consisted of a single letter, that letter would be the first letter of the wearer's last or family name. Nowadays, however, you are welcome to use the initial letter of your first name or any other letter that you desire.

The Fabric of Pharaohs: Linen

Linen has been a mainstay of classic menswear for years and employed generally since the time of the ancient Egyptians, being valued for its unique texture, breathability, and soft hand. Fort Belvedere sources the linen for all of our accessories from a heritage Italian mill specializing in producing only the finest examples of this versatile and refined fabric.

Italian linen is crafted to withstand time, making it a durable fabric that can last for years, even with frequent use. With its natural sheen and ability to drape beautifully, Italian linen exudes an air of sophistication and refinement that enhances any setting.

Linen is also an environmentally friendly choice; being a natural fiber, it is biodegradable. Also, the flax plant, from which linen is made, requires less water than other crops to cultivate.

Contrary to common belief, linen is relatively easy to care for, being able to withstand spot cleaning as needed and requiring only a quick iron or steam to quickly eliminate wrinkles.

Care

Cleaning

To protect its hand-rolled edges, we recommend that you not fully immerse your pocket square in water to clean it. Instead, create a solution of tepid water and mild detergent and carefully spot clean any stains.

Should your pocket square require more thorough cleaning, you can take it to a dry cleaner that specializes in handling delicate accessories. Remind them to be careful when cleaning around the handrolled edges.

Storage

Because it is so lightweight, linen as a fabric is naturally very prone to wrinkling. To reduce unnecessary wrinkling, always remove your linen pocket square from your pocket after wearing it.

Lay it flat in a cool, dry location for a few hours to allow the material to naturally relax and to avoid setting in any wrinkles or creases.

Removing Wrinkles

To remove wrinkles, use a garment steamer set to hot to work out the wrinkles. You can also use an iron set to the Linen setting with a piece of cotton cloth between the linen and the iron.

Lightly sprinkling the underside of the pocket square with water will help relax wrinkles more quickly.

Be sure to only iron the center of the pocket square and do not run your iron over the edges, as it could ruin the effect of the hand-rolled edges by flattening them.

Details & Specs

White Linen Pocket Square with Hand Embroidered Initial A Handmade in Italy by Fort Belvedere
  • Elegantly Embroidered Initial

As a personal statement piece, many Classic Gentlemen would have their initials embroidered on their pocket squares. In this offering from Fort Belvedere, the initial is spectacularly hand-embroidered with an extremely high stitch density, resulting in a slightly raised profile that is noticeable but understated. The initial is placed in the corner so that it can be visible if desired, for instance, as part of the pinnacle of a crown fold, but it can also be folded to hide the initial from the display. The choice is yours.

  • Made from Pure Italian Linen

Linen is a decadent and functional fabric that has been employed in menswear for millennia. Fort Belvedere sourced this linen from an Italian mill. Compared to linen from, for instance, Ireland, Italian linen is generally softer and has a finer hand. Nevertheless, Italian linen is sufficiently crisp to hold folds well and not collapse down into your pocket.

  • Perfectly Sized for Linen

Most pocket squares are sized to get the largest number of pocket squares per yard of fabric. By not considering the unique qualities of the material as related to weight and weave, however, these accessories cannot function well as pocket squares.

Most linen squares are 43 cm x 43cm, or 17" x 17," in size. While they may work as handkerchiefs in the back pocket of your trousers, they are too big for the chest pocket and make the pockets appear overstuffed and bulky. The second most popular commercial size for linen pocket squares, 33 cm x 33 cm, or 13" x 13," is too small, allowing the pocket square to fall in on itself and disappear into your pocket over the course of the day.

By paying particular attention to the unique qualities of our linen, we were able to engineer a pocket square that functions perfectly. After extensive testing, we concluded that 35cm x 35 cm or 13.75" x" 13.75" was the perfect size for our Italian linen pocket squares.

  • Meticulously Hand-Rolled Edges

Although an expensive and time-consuming process, the edges of this Fort Belvedere pocket squares have been rolled by hand to ensure a neat and sophisticated look, in contrast to machine-made edges that are obviously so flat and regimented that they appear cheap. This edge treatment also improves the durability and longevity of the pocket square as it reinforces the areas of most regular wear and tear.

  • The Perfect Weave for Pocket Squares

After thoroughly testing every available type of weave, from coarse-woven to fine double-damask, we settled on this weave because it is ideally suited for pocket squares, possessing an elegant drape that does not add unsightly bulk.

  • Two Styling Options

When worn in a fold that obscures the borders of the pocket square, such as a puff fold, this pocket square appears to be a simple white linen pocket square suited to all occasions and formalities. Any fold that highlights the border, however, allows for the simple introduction of more visual interest.
