The knit tie is the least represented tie in my wardrobe simply because I find it the most informal and use it only when I want a tie to wear with a tweed sport coat. Prior to this purchase my knit ties are from Tom Ford. At more than twice the price the TF ties have neither better material nor craftsmanship. The most distinguishing feature of the Fort Belvedere tie is that I find myself wearing it with my finest suits as opposed to the more causal look I have associated with the knit tie in the past. Highly recommended. I will be purchasing more in the near future.

How to Wear This Silk Knit Tie

Knit ties, with their unique textured fabric, offer a delightful twist to the classic style narrative. They bridge the gap between casual charm and formal elegance, making them a versatile accessory for any gentleman's wardrobe. Unlike their solid counterparts, knit ties provide a subtle nod to sartorial flair without demanding center stage, allowing for a sophisticated yet understated look.

The unique texture of a silk knit tie adds a tactile dimension to your attire. It lends a depth and character that standard smooth ties cannot match, creating an interplay of light and shadow that’s both distinctive and stylish.

Two distinct silk yarns have been woven together to produce this gorgeous tie. The result is an alternating pattern of changing colors that, thanks to the texture of the time, seems to shift and change before your very eyes for a dreamy effect. There remains, however, a regimented order to the arrangement of the colors, helping this tie to remain more formal and decorous.

Please Note: Because this tie was knitted flat and shaped on a wooden mold, a small amount of size contraction takes place immediately after the tie is removed from the mold. As the fabric relaxes over time, the width and length of the tie will increase slightly. Keep in mind that as a handmade product, all stated dimensions are approximate and actual dimensions will vary slightly.

Learn How to Style this Two-Tone Silk Knit Tie

The key is to balance the boldness of the tie with complementary colors and textures. Start with a crisp white dress shirt to provide a neutral backdrop that allows the tie to stand out.

Pair it with a charcoal gray suit to create a cohesive look that ties in with the charcoal element of the tie. The subtle sheen of the changeant silk will add a touch of elegance without overwhelming the outfit.

For a more casual yet polished look, consider pairing the tie with a light blue or pale gray shirt and a navy blazer. This combination works well for business-casual settings and adds a bit of color contrast without clashing.

Opt for brown leather accessories, such as a belt and shoes, to harmonize with the cognac yellow tones in the tie. This will create a balanced and well-coordinated appearance.

When it comes to accessories, keep them minimal to let the tie be the focal point. A simple pocket square in a complementary color, such as a muted yellow or gray, can add a touch of flair without competing with the tie. Avoid overly bold patterns in other elements of your outfit to maintain a sophisticated and cohesive look.

By carefully selecting your shirt, suit, and accessories, you can make the two-tone knit tie in charcoal and cognac yellow changeant silk a standout piece in your wardrobe.

Crafted from the Finest Silk

Our silk knit ties are born from the unparalleled yarn spun in an artisanal Swiss silk milk. Here, our silk yarn is not just made; it's custom-crafted and dyed to create a tie that boasts exclusivity and splendor you simply can't find elsewhere. The yarn is then spun on a heritage knitting machine that has been standing for over 70 years. This machine is more than a tool; it's a testament to the pinnacle of Old World craftsmanship that weaves the fabric of our legacy.

While others opt for round-knitting, our artisans embrace the challenge of flat-knitting. It's a meticulous process that demands exceptional skill but rewards us with a superior tie that stands apart in both appearance and quality. Each tie is then finished by hand with meticulous sewing down the center seam. This not only enhances the tie's elegance but also fortifies its durability, ensuring each piece is a lasting emblem of sophistication.

Finally, every tie is carefully shaped on wooden molds. Settled for days, this age-old technique ensures each tie emerges with the perfect form—a harmonious blend of tradition and timeless style.

Cleaning

Do not attempt to wash this silk knit tie. If you notice a stain, spot clean it using the following procedure.

Gently blot any excess liquid from the stain with a soft, dry cloth. Do not rub, as this can damage the silk fibers.

Fill a small bowl with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild detergent.

Dip a clean, white cloth into the soapy water and wring out excess moisture. Dab the stain gently with the damp cloth.

Moisten another clean cloth with plain lukewarm water and dab the tie to remove soap residue.

Pat the cleaned area with a dry cloth. Then, lay the tie flat on a towel to air dry completely.

Storage

To prevent heavy creasing, never store your neck wear tied or knotted.

Undo the knot and then roll the necktie up in a firm but not excessively tight coil.

Allow it to sit in the coil for about a day to relax wrinkles.

To prevent stretching, knit ties should be stored rolled or flat.

What make this two-tone silk knit tie from Fort Belvedere so special?

Knit ties were popular throughout the Golden Age of Menswear as a distinctive, visually interesting example of neckwear. Most often, they were made from fine silks to provide a subtle sheen as part of their fun array of colors.

Although rare, one of the most classic varieties of silk used for neckties was changeant. This silk has a unique and ethereal luster that seems to move and shimmer in front of your eyes, instantly entrancing all who see it.

Fort Belvedere has sourced only the finest silk for these ties. We're proud to offer a classic, casual knit tie that is produced using traditional methods that we know will be a versatile addition to your wardrobe!

  • Radiant Two-Tone Effect

Yarns of two different colors have been woven together to create this tie. The result is an array of tones that is both dynamic and ordered, organically natural while elegantly pleasing. This utilization of two colors provides the tie with additional visual interest and creates, for you, additional color pathways for a wider array of pairing opportunities for the rest of your ensemble.

  • Old-World Swiss Silk Yarn

To create this one-of-a-kind tie, we needed one-of-a-kind yarn. We found exactly what we were looking for in a little silk mill in the Swiss Alps, where our silk yarn is custom spun and dyed for a look you won’t find anywhere else.

  • Shimmering Changeant Silk

Also referred to as shot silk, changeant silk is a beautiful fabric that is woven from silk warp and weft yarns of multiple colors. This layering of several colors produces a shimmering, iridescent effect that truly has to be seen to be believed.

  • Heritage Knitting Machines

The wool for Fort Belvedere’s knit ties was made on a heritage knitting machine that is over 70 years old and represents the apex of Old World craftsmanship.

  • Shaped on Wooden Molds

To achieve the perfect shape, our knit ties are individually applied to wooden molds and then set for several days. This traditional method imparts the ideal form to our ties.

  • Hand Finished Tie

Once the knitting process is complete, our knit ties are carefully sewn by hand down the center seam for an elegant drape and improved longevity.

  • Flat Knitted

Most other knit ties are round-knitted, but the yarns for our knit ties are flat-knitted in a painstaking process that requires the workmanship of skilled artisans, but that also produces a superior tie.
