Ever since seeing Sven's video on a how to tie a single ended bow tie in 2015, I knew I wanted one. With the first tuxedo event in the post-COVID era coming up, I took the opportunity to add this bowtie into my collection. The silk feels glorious, and it sits in a unique manner on my winged collar. I love it! For those of us who like to be in photos, the silk moiré is just stunning in the right light which is a nice flash camera shot. That's really helpful in a darker event where flash shots are the norm. I highly recommend this product.

Product Info

Exclusive Silk Moire

Silk moire is a type of fabric that exhibits a distinctive watery or wavy pattern, almost like a rippled texture. This effect is achieved through a finishing process called calendaring, where two layers of silk fabric are pressed together under heat and pressure. When those layers are slightly offset, the distinctive moire pattern is created on the surface of the silk, giving it an appearance of depth and movement. Often used in formal attire, silk moire is prized for its luxurious sheen and subtle patterning.

Small Single End Black Silk Moire Bow Tie Fort Belvedere

Decadent Moire Bow Tie

This single end bow tie looks particularly dapper with a wing collar, but will also pair gorgeously with a turndown collar. Because it is singled-end, this bow tie is slightly smaller than most bow ties but still large enough to work with any face. This bow tie has dimensions of approximately 3.65" by 1.75" or 9.25 cm by 4.5 cm.

Because of its more neutral luster and appearance, this black moire silk bow tie can pair with a wider range of tuxedos with satin, moire, or grosgrain lapels. It will look especially dashing with a midnight blue or black dinner jacket, and complements white or off-white evening shirts, studs or traditional buttons, and either traditional waist covering, be it a formal vest or cummerbund.

Sized for You

Your Fort Belvedere formal evening bow tie is individually sized, ensuring that no clunky fastening system or adjustable slides mar the elegant appearance of your neckwear.

In most cases, your bow tie size will be the same as your shirt collar size.

To find this size, simply measure your neck with measuring tape. The size you measure is the size of bow tie you should order.

If you are in-between sizes, choose the next size up if you like a big knot or down if you like a small know.

If your shirt collar is quite a bit bigger than your neck, choose the next larger size.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the relative thickness of the material used in our silk velvet bow ties, size up one half. For instance, if your neck measures 16”, please order a size 16.5.

Care

Cleaning

Silk and blended silk neckwear should not be washed immersed in water as doing so can ruin the texture and color of the silk. Instead, spot clean your neckwear using the following steps.

Gently blot any excess stain with a soft, dry cloth. Do not rub as this can damage the fabric.

Fill a small bowl with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild detergent specifically designed for silk.

Dip a corner of a clean, white cloth into the solution and test it on a hidden area of the tie to ensure it doesn't cause discoloration.

If the test is successful, lightly dab the stained area with the dampened cloth. Use a gentle tapping motion and do not saturate the silk.

Moisten another clean cloth with plain lukewarm water and gently dab the area to remove any soap residue.

Pat the cleaned area with a dry cloth to absorb moisture, then leave the tie laid flat on a towel to air dry completely.

If the stain does not respond to the these steps, take the neckwear to a professional dry cleaner experienced in handling delicate garments.

Storage

To prevent heavy creasing, never store your neckwear tied or knotted.

Undo the knot and then roll the necktie up in a firm but not excessively tight coil.

Allow it to sit in the coil for about a day to relax wrinkles.

To prevent wrinkles, store your silk neckwear hanging, flat, or in a very loose roll.

Black Tie Etiquette

The black bow tie has famously given its name to the Black Tie Dress Code, but this accessory is also an essential requirement when wearing a tuxedo or dinner jacket ensemble. This neckwear will be appropriate for any formal evening dress code that includes the words "Black Tie." Its timeless single-end bow type will frame your face perfectly and ensure you make a memorable impact.

Do not forget the other accessories typical of Black Tie. For the most elegant appearance, it is important to match the facings of your tuxedo to your accessories like neckwear. Therefore, if your dinner jacket has moire on the lapels, you should have a bow tie in the same material. Be sure to select an appropriate waist covering, like a matching cummerbund, and consider a boutonniere as well: traditionally, gentlemen wore a rose or carnation with evening ensembles

Single End Bow Tie in Black Silk Moiré - Fort Belvedere

What makes this silk moire black tie from Fort Belvedere special?

Most bow ties consist of two identical ends, but during the Golden Age of Menswear, some especially dapper English gentlemen popularized a bow tie with a single end. Thanks to its reduced bulk, this single-ended bow tie appears superbly neat and elegant.

Few men are even aware of the existence of single-ended bow ties, so adding this rare style to your wardrobe will help you stand out while remaining sophisticated at every ball, gala, wedding, or evening event at which you need to look the part of a refined, classic gentleman.

This bow tie is made from high-quality silk moire, a singular material woven from silk in a process similar to faille, grosgrain, or repp fabric, but then run through a press to condense the ribs, giving the moire its renowned appearance, similar to the effect of watered silk. Treasured by menswear connoisseurs, moire silk is ideal for the gentleman who has already mastered the basics of Black Tie accessories and who wants to explore new and exciting avenues for sartorial expansion.

Because it is self-tying, the quality of the material is put on full display with an unbroken, continuous neck that is perfectly sized to you, requiring no clunky and obstructing metal clasps. Individually-sized evening neckwear is increasingly rare nowadays, and stands out as the choice of all discerning gentlemen.

You will not find a better black bow tie in silk moire anywhere else!

Details & Specs

Single End Bow Tie in Black Silk Moiré - Fort Belvedere
  • Rare Moire Silk

Silk moire is one of the rarest weaves of silk available today, and Fort Belvedere has sourced our supply directly from a renowned Italian silk mill. Thanks to its unique production process, silk moire has an unforgettable watered-silk appearance that is prized in the menswear sphere and very difficult to locate. Fort Belvedere is therefore one of the few retailers to provide entire evening sets, including both neckwear and cummerbunds, in silk moire.

  • Shimmering Moire Texture

Moire silk, often known as watered silk, carries an air of understated elegance and timeless grace. It appears as if gentle waves have been etched onto the fabric's surface, giving it a mesmerizing, iridescent quality. The play of light upon the textured patterns creates a dynamic visual effect. The unique process that gives moire silk its characteristically rippled texture also imparts a subtle sheen, adding a touch of opulence to this already sophisticated material. Moire silk remains a testament to artisanal craftsmanship, embodying beauty that appeals not just to the eyes, but also to the sense of touch.

  • Handmade from Superlative Silk

The perfect silky sheen can only be achieved with the perfect fabric, so Fort Belvedere has sourced only the finest luxurious silk from a renowned Italian silk mill. Almost all other bow ties utilize an inferior weft satin because it is cheaper to make, but it also results in an inferior luster.

  • Self-Tying Bow Tie

Pre-tied bow ties look clunky and juvenile, appearing overly artificial and being reminiscent of little boys. This bow tie is self-tying so you can craft your own desired knot and tightness to your exact wishes.

  • Individually Sized

To save money and effort, most formal bow ties on the market have an adjustable sizing clasp. Clunky hardwear can feel uncomfortable around your neck and will spoil the lines of your collar, especially if you are wearing a detachable wing collar. Fort Belvedere is one of the few modern makers that offers a fixed-sized bow tie, perfectly suited to your personal measurements, and made from a solid piece of fabric so that there are no unsightly seams or lumps.
