I have been looking for the right color gloves for a long time. Most brands offer black or brown gloves only. Fort Belvedere offers a variety of colors, and their Burgundy is truly unique. When I received the gloves, I was impressed by the quality of the product. My Burgundy gloves attract tons of positive attention, I'm ordering another pair of different color to match other outfits.

Dress Glove Etiquette

Dress gloves can be worn at any time of the year in any setting. In warmer months, consider purchasing unlined gloves so that your hands do not become overheated.

Day dress gloves were traditionally worn in a wide array of colors in addition to traditional leather tones. Popular options included light gray, green, yellow, petrol blue, and even orange.

Always take your gloves off before shaking hands. In a formal setting or upon entering someone’s home, you should remove your gloves.

When indoors, remove your gloves if you are eating, drinking, or smoking. It is considered polite to remove your gloves before handling anything that might be soiled by them, like food or paper.

When not wearing your gloves, never stuff them into your pockets as this can look sloppy. Instead, lay them flatly together, one on top of the other, and hold them or place them beside you on a flat surface.

Dress Gloves as Bold as You Are

Combining the startling tones of blazing orange, heroic bronze, and timeless rust, these day dress droves are typical of the dandified coloring that was popular during the Golden Age of Menswear. Sure to have an impact on everyone that you meet, these gloves will immediately set you apart as a connoisseur of fine style and living.

As a combination of warm colors, these gloves will harmonize naturally with the palette typical of outerwear like coats, scarves, and hats. You can, however, make this effect even greater by adapting the following color pairing suggestions into your larger ensemble.

Rusty orange is a warm, earthy color that exudes coziness and can act as a bold or subtle background depending on what it's paired with. The deep richness of navy blue offers an elegant contrast to the vibrancy of rusty orange, making the combination perfect for sophisticated spaces. For a more vibrant and energetic look, teal works wonderfully with rusty orange. It brings out the brightness in each color, creating an inviting and cheerful atmosphere.

Pairing rusty orange with cream creates a soft yet dynamic aesthetic. Cream's neutrality balances the strength of rusty orange, providing a calming effect. Combining rusty orange with charcoal grey gives you a modern and chic palette. This pairing is particularly effective in contemporary designs where contrast is key.

To evoke an essence of nature and lushness, forest green pairs beautifully with rusty orange. Together, they can produce a woodsy and rustic feel, ideal for spaces inspired by the great outdoors.

Sensational Lamb Suede

Lamb suede has been a favored material for men's dress gloves for centuries. First and foremost, lamb suede is incredibly soft to the touch, providing a luxurious feel that is both comfortable and flexible. This natural suppleness allows for a greater range of motion, making it an ideal choice for men's gloves where dexterity is important. The lightweight nature of lamb suede ensures that the gloves will not feel cumbersome or heavy on the hands. This makes them perfect for everyday wear or for occasions where you need to keep your gloves on for extended periods.

Despite its softness, lamb suede is remarkably durable. It can withstand the wear and tear of daily use while maintaining its elegant appearance. This durability means that gloves made from lamb suede are not only stylish but also a practical long-term investment. Lamb suede is breathable, which is an essential property for maintaining comfort. Breathability helps to reduce sweating, keeping your hands dry and comfortable.

There's no denying the aesthetic appeal of lamb suede. Its fine texture and velvety finish give men's gloves a touch of class and sophistication. Whether dressed up or down, lamb suede gloves make a stylish addition to any outfit.

Lamb suede combines elegance, comfort, and practicality, making it an outstanding material for men's gloves. Its unique blend of qualities offers everything one could want in a pair of gloves, truly standing out as a superior choice for both form and function.

Decadent Cashmere Lining

Cashmere is renowned for its exceptional properties, which make it an excellent choice for lining luxury gloves. Cashmere fibers are exceptionally soft against the skin, providing a feeling of indulgence every time you slip on the gloves. Despite its lightness, cashmere provides excellent insulation, keeping your hands warm and cozy even in the chilliest weather. It naturally allows your skin to breathe, preventing any discomfort from sweat buildup. When well cared for, cashmere maintains its shape and texture over time, ensuring that your gloves remain a cherished accessory for years.

Leather Maintenance

Be aware that, unlike nappa leather, the pores of suede leather are rougher so oils from your fingers will be absorbed more quickly. Suede will also develop a beautiful patina over time, which will enrich the color and is a sign of elegant sophistication.

Cleaning

If a portion of your gloves gets wet, it may develop water stains. If an area of your gloves is darker than the rest after getting wet and then drying, wet the entire glove with clean water and then allow it to air dry for several days. The gloves will then be returned to their uniform appearance.

In most cases, your gloves can be washed with just clean water. If you want to use a cleanser, we suggest a dedicated glove-leather cleaner or a very mild product like baby soap or shampoo. Never use artificial cleaners.

Never wring your gloves dry. Instead, lay the gloves flat with the fingers extended on a towel and layer another towel on top to remove excess water. Then, air dry the gloves for a few days, keeping them clear of artificial heat sources like a radiator, hair dryers, and the like, because they could discolor or damage the leather.

Note that after cleaning, your gloves may feel slightly stiff. Simply wear them regularly to break them back in and they shall return to their previous softness.

Storage

After wearing your gloves, store them flat with the fingers stretched out. Never leave your gloves balled up or crumpled.

What's your glove size?

To determine your glove size, simply measure your dominant hand around the fullest section of the palm.

As implied by the expression “to fit like a glove,” dress gloves were traditionally worn with a relatively tight fit to appear as trim and elegant as possible. Therefore, if you are in-between sizes, we generally recommend sizing down: as the leather stretches, it will conform perfectly to your hand’s dimensions.

Details & Specs

Orange Bronze Rust Suede Size 7 Men's Dress Leather Gloves with Cashmere Lining Button by Fort Belvedere
  • Superlative Suede

The unique, velvety texture of suede is at its best when made from superior animal skins, and that is exactly what we have achieved with these gloves. We searched the globe for the softest and most flexible lamb leather, and we found it in Ethiopia and South Africa. Men’s suede gloves are difficult enough to find nowadays, but considering that these also come in vibrant classic colors, we rightfully consider these gloves essentially one-of-a-kind.

  • Hand-Sewn Gloves

Sewn by Hungarian artisans who can only be described as glove-making virtuosos, these gloves are truly a work of art. Each pair takes hours to complete, and the clear pride that our craftsmen feel in their work is evident from the attentive detail that they lavish on every step of the sewing process.

  • Traditional Button Closure

To ensure a good seal at the throat and a close fit overall, gloves historically featured a button closure at the wrist. As a cost-saving measure, this functionality has practically disappeared, but at Fort Belvedere, we are proud to reintroduce this important feature. Wrapped in leather, our button closure ensures that the glove sits tightly on the wrist so it lies neatly under your sleeve. For a dash of sprezzatura charm, however, you can leave your gloves nonchalantly unbuttoned for a more rakish appearance.

  • Elegant Fourchette Detailing

Dynamic diagonal lines, known as fourchettes, have been a traditional decoration on the backs of men's gloves for centuries. Imparting a strong sense of movement and action, our fourchettes are hand sewn and subtly create visual interest that sets you apart as a connoisseur of glove-making.

  • Quirks for Mobility

To increase the range of finger movement, the best glove makers add triangular segments of leather between the fingers that are called quirks. Quirks are a hallmark of superior craftsmanship and their inclusion is always indicative of exceptional product design. We like to make these quirks contrast-colored for an unexpected pop of color that highlights this unique glove feature.

  • Cashmere Lined

Alpaca and cashmere are the two best linings for gloves, the former being generally warmer and the latter being generally softer. Because these are dress-day gloves not necessarily intended for extreme temperatures, we decided to line this pair in deliciously soft cashmere. Left in its natural mottled oatmeal color, this cashmere was spun, plied, finished, and knitted in Italy according to our exacting standards to ensure a proper fit and maximum comfort.

ABOUT THIS LOOK

How to Wear Our Orange Suede Gloves

Orange is an underemployed color in Classic Menswear, which is especially odd when you consider how well these gloves set off the autumnal foliage. This pair of gloves will shine in the transitional months, especially during the fall, and we like to wear them as part of a vibrant ensemble that chases the chilly gloom away.
