With cheap leather, tacky coatings, and an over-reliance on synthetic fabrics, most wallets on the market today are meant to be used for a year and then thrown away. At Fort Belvedere, we’re proud to offer a wallet that was built to last and that, if properly cared for, can become a treasured heirloom within your family for years to come

The dedicated slots of this wallet were designed to hold five cards, but each slot can hold an additional card if desired. Be aware that the leather of that slot will conform to hold two cards and will become too loose to securely hold a single card if “double stacked” for a few days. That being said, we do not recommend double stacking, as it makes your wallet quite thick.

Boxcalf leather is a high-quality, smooth leather made from the hide of young cattle. Renowned for its fine grain, supple texture, and excellent durability, it is often used in luxury goods such as elegant wallets. Its ability to develop a beautiful patina over time adds to its allure, making boxcalf leather a timeless choice for those who appreciate craftsmanship and style.

The lining for this wallet is made from the hides of deer from Scandinavia. After harvesting, the hides were sent to Germany, where they were beautifully tanned, dyed, and prepared. Unlike boxcalf, deerskin has a more pronounced leather structure. It is also somewhat softer but is still very durable.

To create a slim and portable wallet, the leather for both the interior and exterior of this wallet was carefully thinned, or skived. The result is a thinner wallet that will sit comfortably in your pocket but is still just as beautiful and as durable.

Folded edges are essential for ensuring the durability of leather goods. But most are made with edges that are cut and then painted or burnished. With wear, this edge dressing deteriorates over time and cracks. At Fort Belvedere, the edges of our leather goods are meticulously thinned down at an angle before being folded and sewn together. This not only produces a uniform edge thickness, but it also greatly reduces the wear on the edges of the accessory. As a result, our folded-edges typically last twice as long as edges that are just edge-painted or burnished.

The corners of this wallet have been carefully rounded. Overly pointed edges on wallets catch on your clothes and become crumpled with use and age. Each exterior edge of this wallet has been rounded, ensuring smooth access and a subtle, organic appearance.

Almost all other wallet-makers use less expensive or even synthetic fabrics for the lining and dividers in their wallets. At Fort Belvedere, we insist upon real leather for all of our structural linings, ensuring a more beautiful and long-lasting product.

While most contemporary wallets are available in plain black or shades of brown, Fort Belvedere refuses to let boredom win, and so our wallets offer classically inspired style with an elegant twist. The shell of this wallet is a stately brown but the contrast stitching and edges hint at the vibrant surprise waiting inside: an exquisite edge-to-edge lining in beautiful blue. The lining also features an understated contrasting brown. While tone-in-tone threads can obscure errors, when it comes to Fort Belvedere quality, we have nothing to hide!

Fort Belvedere spent three years developing our wallets to determine which leathers were ideal for our desired functionality and look. Lamb leather was very soft, but it wore out too quickly with regular use. Long-grain cow leather was durable, but wrinkled due to the folding and unfolding of the wallet. Pigskin and suede were too flimsy, and saddle and bridle leather was too stiff. We had to go through many prototypes to make the perfect wallet, but we finally did it!
