This tie is stunning! It's a little darker in real life, but personally, I like that. It pairs well with business suits and casual attire alike. I've worn it several times now, and have received lots of compliments. It's among my favourite FB ties.

Houndstooth, Reinvented with Silk

Houndstooth ties, also known as Dogtooth or Pepita ties, are a staple in a classic men's wardrobe. Traditionally, the houndstooth pattern was employed for woolen sport coats, tweeds, suits, but also for accessories like ties. It has a uniquely masculine appearance and was favored for athletic and sporting attire, such as would be worn during hunts, shooting parties, or horseback riding.

Fort Belvedere redesigned the classic houndstooth tie by pairing it with a richly textured bourette silk in classic colors so you can look dapper no matter if you wear a navy or charcoal suit or a brown or green Donegal tweed jacket.

Houndstooth Bourette Silk Tie in Burgundy Red Cream - Fort Belvedere

Versatile Houndstooth in Warm Burgundy and Cream

Whether entertaining friends at home, putting in work at the office, or striding across your country estate with your hounds at your heels, this silk tie with burgundy and cream houndstooth pattern will make you feel like the lord of the manor.

Houndstooth patterns are characterized by broken checks or abstract four-pointed shapes, usually in two colors. The pattern is so versatile because its organic elements, arranged in a pleasing repeating grid, appear both ordered and dynamic, elegant and masculine. This pattern will serve you well in social or business, casual or formal, settings.

Patterns like houndstooth can be effortlessly paired with any solids without issue. And because our houndstooth pattern is slightly oversized, it won't appear jarring when worn with other patterns like stripes, Glencheck, pinpoints, or needle head.

Made so it could be worn with all classic suits and sports coats, the color scheme of burgundy red and cream pairs phenomenally with dark suits in navy, charcoal, and gray, but it also works with mid blues, dark reds, greens, khakis, browns, and most other earthtones. No matter if you wear a blazer, linen, worsted, flannel or tweed, this tie will work well and underlines your good taste paired with some dynamic because it is a classic with a modern twist.

Care

Cleaning

Bourette silk neckwear should not be washed immersed in water as doing so can ruin the texture and color of the silk. Instead, spot clean your neckwear using the following steps.

Gently blot any excess substance from the stain with a soft, dry cloth. Do not rub as this can damage the fabric.

Fill a small bowl with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild detergent specifically designed for silk.

Dip a corner of a clean, white cloth into the solution and test it on a hidden area of the tie to ensure it doesn't cause discoloration.

If the test is successful, lightly dab the stained area with the dampened cloth. Use a gentle tapping motion and do not saturate the silk.

Moisten another clean cloth with plain lukewarm water and gently dab the area to remove any soap residue.

Pat the cleaned area with a dry cloth to absorb moisture, then leave the neckwear laid flat on a towel to air dry completely.

If the stain does not respond to the these steps, take the tie to a professional dry cleaner experienced in handling silk garments.

Storage

To prevent heavy creasing, never store your neckwear tied or knotted.

Undo the knot and then roll the neckwear up in a firm but not excessively tight coil. Allow it to sit in the coil for about a day to relax wrinkles.

To prevent wrinkles, store your neckwear hanging, flat, or in a very loose roll.

Silk with a Raw, Unique Texture

Bourette silk, sometimes called raw silk, is a wonderfully unique fabric that embodies natural beauty and understated elegance. Unlike its smooth and lustrous counterparts, bourette silk boasts a textured surface of tiny specks and nubs. These irregularities are the result of shorter silk fibers and sericin residue, remnants of the silk worm cocoon, being spun into the yarn.

The tactile experience of bourette silk is unparalleled; it's like touching raw silk harvested directly from nature. Its durability and excellent drape make it a versatile choice for those who seek comfort without compromising on style. For connoisseurs, neckwear made from bourette silk indicates ones devotion to the unique and the unexpected.

Sized To Fit You

Almost all retailers sell their ties as one-size-fits-all. A handful offer neckties that are either longer or shorter. At Fort Belvedere, we cater to the needs of every man, whether of modest, average, or above-average height, which is why we are proud to offer neckties in three distinct sizes.

The dimensions of our neckties are proportional to your height.

SHORT: For those who are 5’8” or 173 cm or shorter.

REGULAR: For those between 5'9" or 175 cm and 6'2" or 188 cm.

LONG: For those who are 6’3” or 190 cm or taller.

If you prefer to wear trousers with a higher rise and are in-between sizes, it may be better to size down so that the necktie does not fall below your waistband when tied.

Available Self-Tipped or Untipped

Based on size, some of our ties are Self-Tipped or Untipped.

Self-tipped ties have a lining as part of their tips. The overwhelming majority of tie makers use a less expensive fabric for the tip in a bid to save money, but doing so compromises on the look and the functionality of the tie. All self-tipped Fort Belvedere ties feature a generous piece of lining in the same fabric as the tie’s body for a consistent, quality-made look and feel that is in keeping with traditional self-tipped tie construction.

Fort Belvedere also offers untipped ties in which the tips are carefully hand-rolled for a beautiful look and secure finish that requires more skill to achieve than a self-tipped tie. Because they have less fabric, untipped ties are also lighter. Untipped ties were very popular in the 1930s, and as a tribute to the styling conventions of that era, Fort Belvedere untipped ties have a vintage flared end.

Details & Specs

Houndstooth Bourette Silk Tie in Navy Blue and Beige in light blue long sleeve and red knitted sweater on top
  • Tactile Bourette Silk

The bourette silk used for this tie has character and strong texture that is somewhat similar, yet different than shantung. Naturally, silk has different thicknesses and for bourette, it is desirable to have distinctly different yarns so you get a wonderful texture. Exclusively woven for Fort Belvedere in Italy on heirloom looms, you will not find this fabric anywhere else.

  • Modern Houndstooth Pattern

While traditional houndstooth, dogtooth, or pepita ties are either printed or jacquard-woven in a smaller pattern, this bourette silk necktie adds character thanks to the natural slubby appearance of the silk material. Whether it is paired with a business suit, sportscoat, or casual tweed jacket, this houndstooth pattern will pair beautifully with solids or other patterns.

  • Perfectly Sized Ties

On formal occasions, every detail must be exactly correct, and this applies as well to the length of your neckwear. This necktie is available in three different sizes so that you can pick the necktie that is perfectly proportioned to you.

  • Available Tipped or Untipped

  • Handmade

Fort Belvedere ties are entirely sewn by hand, which gives them improved flexibility and designs that are functional as well as beautiful. This careful oversight allows us to offer exceptional products typified by the standards of Old World construction.

  • 3-Fold Construction

Many ties are made with an unlined 6- or 7-fold construction that is soft and flimsy, causing lank, unappealing knots and a wrinkled tie. Fort Belvedere neckties are 3-fold constructed with a simple wool interlining, improving the overall structure and drape of the tie while allowing for fantastic knots. The discerning eye may notice the lining visible through the open pores, creating the impression of a solid tie with a sophisticated twist that will impress genuine clothing aficionados.
