The Predators and Prey Collection

This cufflink is part of our Predators and Prey Collection, a series of cufflinks inspired by the animal kingdom and the struggle to survive and thrive in a dangerous world. These pairings reflect the strength of the predator and the tenacity of the prey, ensuring that no matter what your circumstances are, you are encouraged to excel with sartorial styling roused by the power of nature.

Set Your Heart Racing

A stallion has speed and strength, but that power remains untapped if the animal runs wild. A stirrup can guide and harness power, but at the risk of breaking a free spirit. Only a truly self aware person can find the balance in which his potentially is fully realized without the risk of trapping himself.

When you wear these extraordinary cufflinks, featuring a lovingly rendered head of a horse, embodying strength and grace, on the face and an exquisitely detailed stirrup, representing stability and tradition, on the foot, you tell the world: I have mastered myself without compromising my freedom.

This original design was created exclusively for Fort Belvedere by a heritage German jeweler, and from start to finish, these cufflinks were proudly made in Germany according to Old World standards.

Meticulously crafted from solid 925 sterling silver and lavishly plated with 23 karat yellow gold 5 to 6 microns thick, these cufflinks are a testament to a lost age defined by perseverance, self respect, and a spirit of adventure.

The robust solid bar shank ensures enduring strength, promising a lifetime of impeccable wear. The solid construction of the cufflinks speaks to their quality, providing a substantial feel that is both reassuring and luxurious,

These cufflinks are more than just an accessory; they are a testament to the wearer's appreciation for timeless style and superior craftsmanship, sure to set you apart from the rest of the herd.

How to Wear These Cufflinks

Formality

These refined gold cufflinks provide exceptional adaptability while introducing an element of distinguished character to your wardrobe. Consider these suggestions for optimal presentation.

Perfect for most daytime functions, these cufflinks transition seamlessly to casual evening gatherings or Black Tie events that embrace personal flair, such as Creative Black Tie or Festive Black Tie interpretations.

Harmonizing Accessories

To achieve a thoughtfully curated appearance, align the lustrous gold finish of these cufflinks with the other metallic components in your outfit. Complement them with gold-toned watch cases, tie accessories, or belt fixtures for an integrated aesthetic that reflects meticulous consideration.

Make these storytelling cufflinks the centerpiece of your accessory collection. Limit additional jewelry to essentials—perhaps an elegant timepiece and understated wedding ring. This judicious approach creates visual balance, allowing your cufflinks to serve as conversation starters without visual competition from other adornments.

Seasonality

Our sumptuous gold tone performs admirably throughout all seasons but resonates particularly well with autumn's rich palette and winter's celebratory ambiance. In warmer months, these cufflinks introduce a pleasant warmth to spring and summer's lighter-hued suits and shirts.

Please Note: Due to the size of the stirrup, which is needed to ensure balance, these cufflinks may not fit into very small, narrow cuff buttonholes.

Precious Metals for Precious Cufflinks

925 Sterling Silver

Each of these cufflinks is cast from solid 925 Sterling Silver, the quality standard for silver products with a purity of 92.5%. Because they are solid, and not hollow, these cufflinks have a pleasing heft in your hand and will also sit more securely in your cuff buttonhole, ensuring a neat and refined appearance.

The pieces featuring a Blackened Silver luster consist entirely of 925 Sterling Silver. Their unique appearance has been created by intentionally oxidizing the surface of the silver to darken it before the surface features are carefully polished to remove portions of the oxidation. This polishing creates a high contrast between the surface and the oxidized details, emphasizing the sculptural appearance of the figures and the fine intricacies of the carving.

Our silver alloy does not contain nickel, meaning that our cufflinks are hypoallergenic and allergen free.

23k Yellow Gold Plating

The pieces featuring Yellow Gold are plated with 23 karat yellow gold to a depth of between 5 to 6 microns, considerably thicker than the plating employed by most other jewelers. This thickness ensures that the plating will not deteriorate with regular use, providing you with a heritage-grade accessory that looks and functions exactly like a solid gold cufflink, but at a fraction of the cost.

Our gold has been sourced from a legacy bullion provider in Germany founded in 1850. Its operations take advantage of the latest technology to produce exceptional gold of the highest possible purity. Dedicated to sustainability and the protection of the environment, this refinery is carbon dioxide neutral and is also one of the leading gold recyclers on the planet.

How to Wear

Rather than employing a rotating t-bar mechanism, which can wear down and break with time, these cufflinks have a fixed post shank, ensuring vastly superior durability and cleaner overall lines.

To use it, simply guide the foot, or smaller, end of the cufflink through the outer and then the inner fold of your cuff buttonhole. The weight of the cufflink and the size of the face and foot will hold everything perfectly in place.

How To Store Your Cufflinks

To prevent scratches, avoid placing or storing your cufflinks on or near rough surfaces. For further protection, store your cufflinks in a soft pouch, lined jewelry box, or the case in which they arrived. Keep your cufflinks separate from other jewelry to avoid damaging contact or abrasion.

How To Clean Your Cufflinks

  1. Wipe your cufflinks with a soft, lint-free cloth after each use to remove any dirt or oils. This prevents buildup and maintains their shine.
  2. If needed, you may polish your cufflinks with a high quality gold or silver polish, following all indicated instructions.
  3. Keep your cufflinks away from harsh chemicals like perfumes, lotions, and cleaning products. These can damage their precious metal.

Please Note: Our Blackened Silver Cufflinks will continue to oxidize and darken with age. To restore their original high-contrast appearance, lightly polish them as needed.

What makes these Predator & Prey cufflinks so special?

A gentleman’s jewelry was once one of his most intimate accessories, either passed down through the generations or purchased bespoke from a trusted jeweler. Fort Belvedere invites you to revive this elegant mode of dressing with our Predator and Prey Collection.

Every cufflink features a painstakingly drafted and realized original design, conceived by a heritage master jeweler and precious metal smith. Inspired by the beauty and ferocity of nature, these figurations are precisely and minutely detailed, featuring minuscule decorations that festoon all of the exposed area of the cufflink. Unlike other brands, our cufflinks are carved throughout, with intricate designs appearing not only on the foot, but even on the bar shank, so that these cufflinks are captivating and awe-inspiring from every angle.

To ensure that this beautiful figuration does not adversely affect the functionality of our cufflinks, each pair has been carefully tested for convenient wearability. All sharp points have been rounded and any edges that could caught or snag have been altered, so you do not need to worry about any part of these cufflinks poking holes in or catching on your clothing.

Crafted from solid 925 sterling silver, these cufflinks are durable and made to last. Accordingly, we opted for a fixed shank bar, not a toggle bar, because a toggle bar mechacism will eventually wear down and break. We want to ensure that these cufflinks truly last a lifetime, and even longer than that, because we know that you will be proud to pass them down through the generations.

Details & Specs

A silver fox head cufflink worn with a tartan dinner jacket
  • Original Zoomorphic Design

We were first inspired to explore the theme of predators and prey by vintage animal motifs on antique closet hangers. From there, we commissioned a master jeweler to develop an original design for cufflinks showcasing animals engaged in the struggle to dominate, survive, and thrive. Our jeweler event visited his local zoo for inspiration! From this extensive labor he produced for us the most detailed, functional, and beautiful animal-design jewelry we have ever seen.

  • Finely Detailed Figuration

This cufflink is beautifully adorned in gorgeously fine ornamentation, achieved by the artisanal craft of a master precious metal smith. Every detail was carved by hand into the wax model from which these cufflinks were later molded. As a result, each cufflink features unrivaled minute detailing typical only of bespoke jewelry.

  • All Exposed Surfaces Fully Decorated

Most modern cufflinks are only decorated on the face, leaving the foot and shank bare and unadorned. This oversight means your cufflinks look ugly from every other side unless they are exclusively viewed head on. Like the true works of art that they are, Fort Belvedere cufflinks look gorgeous from every angle because they feature beautiful and intricate decoration on the face, on the foot, and on the sections of the shank not covered by the shirt cuff. We are proud to attentively decorate every facet just as fully as we decorate the face.

  • Cufflinks Cast in Solid 925 Sterling Silver

The overwhelming majority of modern cufflinks are made hollow to save time and money. Because of our dedication to functionality and appearance, Fort Belvedere refused to compromise in this way and cast these cufflinks in solid 925-fineness sterling silver. As a result, these cufflinks weigh, on average, about twice as much as those offered by our competitors. Not only does this give the cufflinks a pleasing heft in your hand, but the solid construction also improves durability and helps the cufflink sit securely in your sleeve.

  • Solid Bar Shank

Modern cufflinks increasingly rely on toggle bars, or "t-bars," to ensure a secure fit at the cuff. This mechanism, however, will eventually wear down and fail with use. Our cufflinks feature a solid bar shank, meaning that there is nothing to break, setting them apart as genuine heritage accessories that can be passed down through the generations. A close and solid closure is achieved through the heavy weight of the face and foot, and the foot itself has been designed to slip easily into your cuff buttonholes but then remain securely seated.

  • Crafted Exactly Like Bespoke Jewelry

The process by which these cufflinks were created mirrors precisely the process for commissioning bespoke jewelry. From a totally originally design, a wax model was hand carved by a master jeweler. That model was then used to create the mold in which each cufflink was cast.

  • Extensively Tested for Functionality

All of our cufflinks have undergone a rigorous testing process to ensure that they can be worn safely with a wide array of shirts. Many small details were changed to facilitate your convenience and the safety of your clothes: sharp points have been rounded to prevent tearing and free edges have been altered to reduce the risk of catching. The feet of these cufflinks have also been designed so that they can pass easily into even very tight cufflink buttonholes.

  • Hypoallergenic & Nickel-Free

Most gold or platinum platings on the market contain nickel. Many people, however, are allergic to nickel, and can suffer unpleasant reactions from even the trace amounts of nickel found in metal alloys. To ensure that everyone can enjoy our products, Fort Belvedere is proud to offer metal goods that are all nickel-free and hypoallergenic. Even if you have suffered adverse reactions from other buckles or jewelry because of their nickel content, you can confidently use Fort Belvedere buckles because they are 100% nickel-free.
