The thing I love so much about these grenadine ties is how versatile they are. I try to dress up casually, without looking like I just came from the office. This tie is perfect for that. But I also wear them to the office without them looking out of place.

The Eternal Appeal of a Grenadine Necktie

Grenadine ties have a unique place in menswear history, known for their textured appearance and intricate weave. Originating from Italy, specifically the Lake Como region, grenadine silk ties date back to the early 20th century.

The popularity of grenadine ties surged in the 1950s and 1960s, partly due to their association with style icons like Sean Connery's James Bond. The character sported these ties as part of his sophisticated ensemble, thereby cementing their status as a symbol of classic style.

Despite fluctuations in fashion trends, grenadine ties have remained a staple in a well-dressed man's wardrobe. Their versatility and understated elegance make them suitable for both formal and business casual attire. Today, they are still highly regarded for their quality and are sought after by sartorial enthusiasts worldwide.

Black: The Essence of Elegance and Power

For a formal or business setting, pair the tie with a crisp white dress shirt and a well-tailored charcoal or navy suit. The black tie provides a striking contrast that exudes professionalism and sophistication. Opt for a simple knot like the four-in-hand or a half-Windsor to maintain the tie's refined texture and understated elegance.

For a more contemporary look, consider pairing the black grenadine tie with a light grey suit and a pastel-colored shirt. This combination adds a modern twist while keeping the overall appearance polished and stylish.

Accessorize with a pocket square in a complementary color or subtle pattern to add a bit of personality without overwhelming the ensemble. The grenadine weave's unique texture will stand out, making your outfit memorable and distinctive.

When attending a black-tie event, the black grenadine silk tie can be paired with a classic black tuxedo and a white dress shirt. This timeless combination ensures you adhere to the dress code while adding a touch of texture and depth to your look. Complete the outfit with black patent leather shoes and minimal accessories to keep the focus on the tie's sophisticated elegance.

Sized To Fit You

Almost all retailers sell their ties as one-size-fits-all. A handful offer neckties that are either longer or shorter. At Fort Belvedere, we cater to the needs of every man, whether of modest, average, or above-average height, which is why we are proud to offer neckties in three distinct sizes.

The dimensions of our neckties are proportional to your height.

SHORT: For those who are 5’8” or 173 cm or shorter.

REGULAR: For those between 5'9" or 175 cm and 6'2" or 188 cm.

LONG: For those who are 6’3” or 190 cm or taller.

If you prefer to wear trousers with a higher rise and are in-between sizes, it may be better to size down so that the necktie does not fall below your waistband when tied.

Available Self-Tipped or Untipped

Based on size, some of our ties are Self-Tipped or Untipped.

Self-tipped ties have a lining as part of their tips. The overwhelming majority of tie makers use a less expensive fabric for the tip in a bid to save money, but doing so compromises on the look and the functionality of the tie. All self-tipped Fort Belvedere ties feature a generous piece of lining in the same fabric as the tie’s body for a consistent, quality-made look and feel that is in keeping with traditional self-tipped tie construction.

Fort Belvedere also offers untipped ties in which the tips are carefully hand-rolled for a beautiful look and secure finish that requires more skill to achieve than a self-tipped tie. Because they have less fabric, untipped ties are also lighter. Untipped ties were very popular in the 1930s, and as a tribute to the styling conventions of that era, Fort Belvedere untipped ties have a vintage flared end.

An Ephemerally Beautiful Fabric

Grenadine fabric is a testament to the art of weaving, a craft that transforms simple threads into a symphony of texture and elegance. This luxurious material begins its journey as high-quality silk yarn. The magic unfolds on traditional wooden looms, where skilled artisans employ a unique weaving technique called "leno weave."

In this intricate process, pairs of warp (vertical) threads are twisted around each other, securing the weft (horizontal) thread as it passes through. This creates grenadine's characteristic open, gauzy structure, which is both resilient and refined. The result is a fabric with a subtle, textured grid that catches the light in a dance of shimmering reflections.

The beauty of grenadine lies not just in its appearance but also in its versatility. It can be dyed in a myriad of colors, offering a spectrum of possibilities for those who seek to add a touch of sophistication to their wardrobe. Silk grenadine neckties are accordingly famous for their unique texture that effortlessly pairs with almost every variety of shirt, jacket, or suit.

Care

Cleaning

A grenadine silk tie should not be washed immersed in water as doing so can ruin the texture and color of the silk. Instead, spot clean your tie using the following steps.

Gently blot any excess substance from the stain with a soft, dry cloth. Do not rub as this can damage the fabric.

Fill a small bowl with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild detergent specifically designed for silk.

Dip a corner of a clean, white cloth into the solution and test it on a hidden area of the tie to ensure it doesn't cause discoloration.

If the test is successful, lightly dab the stained area with the dampened cloth. Use a gentle tapping motion and do not saturate the silk.

Moisten another clean cloth with plain lukewarm water and gently dab the area to remove any soap residue.

Pat the cleaned area with a dry cloth to absorb moisture, then leave the tie laid flat on a towel to air dry completely.

If the stain does not respond to the these steps, take the tie to a professional dry cleaner experienced in handling silk garments.

Wrinkle Removal

To remove wrinkles, never iron the tie directly as high heat can ruin the silk. Use a steamer or the iron's steam setting while keeping the iron at least a few inches away from the fabric.

Rotation

Silk fibers need to recover after being tied, so rotate your ties allowing them to rest between wears.

Storage

To prevent heavy creasing, never store your neck wear tied or knotted.

Undo the knot and then roll the necktie up in a firm but not excessively tight coil.

Allow it to sit in the coil for about a day to relax wrinkles.

To prevent wrinkles, store your silk tie hanging or in a very loose roll.

What makes this grenadine silk tie from Fort Belvedere so special?

A grenadine necktie is a hallmark of sartorial elegance, distinguished by its intricate and textured weave. Crafted from high-twist silk yarn using a special loom, the grenadine tie boasts a gauzy, open weave that is both resilient and refined. This unique structure not only adds depth and interest to your ensemble but also ensures a knot that is crisp and holds its shape beautifully throughout the day.

The versatility of a grenadine tie is unparalleled; it can elevate a business suit or add a touch of sophistication to casual attire. It's not just an accessory—it's a statement of discernment and an ode to the timeless art of classic menswear.

Details & Specs

Tied Grenadine Silk Tie in Navy Blue
  • Old-World Loom Italian Grenadine

Genuine grenadine fabric requires special hand-twisted yarns and machines that create an open gauze weave similar to a jacquard loom. Only a handful of mills today have the experience and resources required to make it, but we found such a mill in Italy and are proud to source heirloom-quality grenadine that is far more rare and valuable than other printed or jacquard silk fabrics.

  • Unique Grenadine Weave

The most well-known grenadine patterns are Garza fina and Garza grossa. Garza fina has a fine, porous weave that looks similar to that of knit ties, while Garza grossa has a flexible, more open weave with increased texture and threads that pull more easily. Fort Belvedere ties are specially woven in Italy to exacting standards that produce an exceptional texture and feel while minimizing the likelihood of potential pulled threads.

  • Perfectly Sized Ties

On formal occasions, every detail must be exactly correct, and this applies as well to the length of your neckwear. This necktie is available in three different sizes so that you can pick the necktie that is perfectly proportioned to you.

  • Solid Pattern

Because this tie has a single, simple color, it provides a bold initial effect but is easy to harmonize with other elements in your ensemble. You can easily build your entire look around this tie, as that single color has considerable visual bulk to balance the other elements in your outfit. However, because of the unique texture of the tie, the single color still has considerable visual interest.

  • Handmade

Fort Belvedere ties are entirely sewn by hand, which gives them improved flexibility and designs that are functional as well as beautiful. This careful oversight allows us to offer exceptional products typified by the standards of Old World construction.

  • 3-Fold Construction

Many ties are made with an unlined 6- or 7-fold construction that is soft and flimsy, causing lank, unappealing knots and a wrinkled tie. Fort Belvedere neckties are 3-fold constructed with a simple wool interlining, improving the overall structure and drape of the tie while allowing for fantastic knots. The discerning eye may notice the lining visible through the open pores, creating the impression of a solid tie with a sophisticated twist that will impress genuine clothing aficionados.

  • Available Tipped or Untipped
