Got the square today. I have multiple squares, almost all of which are high quality, but this one is especially good. It will likely be one of the squares I wear the most behind my standard white due to its versatility.

How to Style a Pocket Square

Utilizing unique and interesting folds imparts greater versatility, as well as debonair elegance, to your pocket square. Ensuring that your folds appear natural and unaffected will not only look more charming and nonchalant, but it will also be evident to others that you are not wearing a cheap, pre-folded pocket square.

For this particular pocket square, to accentuate the intricate x-detailing of the pocket square, we suggest that you opt for a fold that brings attention to its periphery, such as the banker’s fold or crown fold.

Conversely, if you wish to draw focus to the main color of the pocket square, the puff fold is the ideal choice.Employing these folds allows the pocket square to serve a dual purpose, offering the versatility of two accessories in one.

A Sip of Elegance

Indulge in the rich, wine-inspired tones of this handcrafted linen pocket square. The deep burgundy red fabric is perfectly offset by the crisp white hand-rolled X-stitch detailing, creating a look that is both bold and impeccably tasteful. This accessory is a tribute to the man who appreciates the finer things in life.

To curate a look of distinction, marry this pocket square with a jet-black suit or a classic herringbone tweed. For a touch of sartorial brilliance, introduce elements of navy blue, pale grey, or even a soft pink within your shirt or tie selection.

The Fabric of Pharaohs: Linen

Linen has been a mainstay of classic menswear for years and employed generally since the time of the ancient Egyptians, being valued for its unique texture, breathability, and soft hand. Fort Belvedere sources the linen for all of our accessories from a heritage Italian mill specializing in producing only the finest examples of this versatile and refined fabric.

Italian linen is crafted to withstand time, making it a durable fabric that can last for years, even with frequent use. With its natural sheen and ability to drape beautifully, Italian linen exudes an air of sophistication and refinement that enhances any setting.

Linen is also an environmentally friendly choice; being a natural fiber, it is biodegradable. Also, the flax plant, from which linen is made, requires less water than other crops to cultivate.

Contrary to common belief, linen is relatively easy to care for, being able to withstand spot cleaning as needed and requiring only a quick iron or steam to quickly eliminate wrinkles.

Care

Cleaning

To protect its hand-rolled edges, we recommend that you not fully immerse your pocket square in water to clean it. Instead, create a solution of tepid water and mild detergent and carefully spot clean any stains.

Should your pocket square require more thorough cleaning, you can take it to a dry cleaner that specializes in handling delicate accessories. Remind them to be careful when cleaning around the handrolled edges.

Storage

Because it is so lightweight, linen as a fabric is naturally very prone to wrinkling. To reduce unnecessary wrinkling, always remove your linen pocket square after wearing it.

To remove wrinkles, use a garment steamer set to hot or iron, with a piece of cotton cloth between the linen and the iron.

Lightly sprinkling the underside of the pocket square with water will help relax wrinkles more quickly.

Be sure to only iron the center of the pocket square and do not run your iron over the edges, as it could ruin the effect of the hand-rolled edges by flattening them.

What makes this open-weave linen pocket square special?

Pocket squares are one of the easiest and quickest ways to improve the overall look of your outfit, but it all depends on the elegance, timelessness, and versatility of the pocket square: not all are created equal!

While most pocket squares are made from cheap synthetics in simple colors or garish designs, Fort Belvedere is proud to offer a range of different materials in silk, wool, or blends thereof.

And while other pocket squares have their hems finished by machines, all of our pocket squares are meticulously hand-rolled, with the embroidery work done by hand.

Most significantly, nearly all other pocket squares are too small because they are simply cut to get the biggest yield from the piece of fabric it is made off. At Fort Belvedere we determine the size of each square by the specific fabric used so you end up with the perfectly sized pocket square that will neither disappear in your chest pocket nor create any bulk.

A pocket square cannot improve your look if it vanishes into your pocket or spoils the lines of your jacket, after all!

Details & Specs

White Handcrafted Linen Pocket Square with Light Blue Handrolled X Stitch - Fort Belvedere
  • Made from Pure Italian Linen

Linen is a decadent and functional fabric that has been employed in menswear for millennia. Fort Belvedere sourced this linen from an Italian mill. Compared to linen from, for instance, Ireland, Italian linen is generally softer and has a finer hand. Nevertheless, Italian linen is sufficiently crisp to hold folds well and not collapse down into your pocket.

  • Perfectly Sized for Linen

Most pocket squares are sized to get the largest number of pocket squares per yard of fabric. By not considering the unique qualities of the material as related to weight and weave, however, these accessories cannot function well as pocket squares.

Most linen squares are 43 cm x 43cm, or 17" x 17," in size. While they may work as handkerchiefs in the back pocket of your trousers, they are too big for the chest pocket and make the pockets appear overstuffed and bulky. The second most popular commercial size for linen pocket squares, 33 cm x 33 cm, or 13" x 13," is too small, allowing the pocket square to fall in on itself and disappear into your pocket over the course of the day.

By paying particular attention to the unique qualities of our linen, we were able to engineer a pocket square that functions perfectly. After extensive testing, we concluded that 35cm x 35 cm or 13.75" x" 13.75" was the perfect size for our Italian linen pocket squares.

  • Meticulously Hand-Rolled Edges

Although an expensive and time-consuming process, the edges of this Fort Belvedere pocket squares have been rolled by hand to ensure a neat and sophisticated look, in contrast to machine-made edges that are obviously so flat and regimented that they appear cheap. This edge treatment also improves the durability and longevity of the pocket square as it reinforces the areas of most regular wear and tear.

  • Contrast X-Stitching Detailing

Done entirely by hand by Italian craftsmen, contrast x-stitch detailing necessitates even higher quality standards, because the contrast thread immediately highlights any imperfection or asymmetry. As a result, this detailing doubles the amount of time spent crafting these pocket squares, because each stitch has to be done very carefully and accurately from both sides.

  • Two Styling Options

When worn in a fold that obscures the borders of the pocket square, such as a puff fold, this pocket square appears to be a simple white linen pocket square suited to all occasions and formalities. Any fold that highlights the border, however, allows for the simple introduction of more visual interest.

  • Unique Open Weave

The linen for this pocket square has been woven with a rare open weave, creating a shimmering effect as the colors of the body shift between different tones. The result is a pocket square with a crisp hand and unexpected visual interest. This pocket square is especially useful when you want to play with textures, emphasizing and contrasting fabrics based on their weave.
