Faille grosgrain is a type of fabric that combines the characteristics of both faille and grosgrain textiles. It has a ribbed appearance like grosgrain but features the slightly heavy and crisp drape associated with faille. This fabric often has a subtle sheen and is commonly utilized in only the finest formal attire.

We spent years searching for a silk worthy of this refined weave, and we found it at an Italian heritage silk mill. This mill produces silk faille grosgrain with a double warp weave, a difficult and time-consuming task that raises the cost of this fabric but also makes it all the more beautiful to behold.

Sized for You

Your Fort Belvedere formal evening bow tie is individually sized, ensuring that no clunky fastening system or adjustable slides mar the elegant appearance of your neckwear.

In most cases, your bow tie size will be the same as your shirt collar size.

To find this size, simply measure your neck with measuring tape. The size you measure is the size of bow tie you should order.

If you are in-between sizes, choose the next size up if you like a big knot or down if you like a small know.

If your shirt collar is quite a bit bigger than your neck, choose the next larger size.

Care

Cleaning

Silk and blended silk neckwear should not be washed immersed in water as doing so can ruin the texture and color of the silk. Instead, spot clean your neckwear using the following steps.

Gently blot any excess stain with a soft, dry cloth. Do not rub as this can damage the fabric.

Fill a small bowl with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild detergent specifically designed for silk.

Dip a corner of a clean, white cloth into the solution and test it on a hidden area of the tie to ensure it doesn't cause discoloration.

If the test is successful, lightly dab the stained area with the dampened cloth. Use a gentle tapping motion and do not saturate the silk.

Moisten another clean cloth with plain lukewarm water and gently dab the area to remove any soap residue.

Pat the cleaned area with a dry cloth to absorb moisture, then leave the tie laid flat on a towel to air dry completely.

If the stain does not respond to the these steps, take the neckwear to a professional dry cleaner experienced in handling delicate garments.

Storage

To prevent heavy creasing, never store your neckwear tied or knotted.

Undo the knot and then roll the necktie up in a firm but not excessively tight coil.

Allow it to sit in the coil for about a day to relax wrinkles.

To prevent wrinkles, store your silk neckwear hanging, flat, or in a very loose roll.

What makes this faille grosgrain bow tie special?

The black bow tie is the focal point of the Black Tie dress code. This example has been crafted from decadent textured faille grosgrain. Faile is made from yarns with more ends, or warp yarns, than picks, or weft yarns. This combination creates a unique, flat rib effect in the fabric that has a regimented but still visually interesting appearance. Traditionally, faille was made exclusively from silk and with softer, heavier cords than grosgrain, although nowadays the terms are often used interchangeably. Faille fabric is increasingly rare and today found mostly in bespoke garments, and it has the same degree of formality as satin, making it a perfectly acceptable option for balls, galas, weddings, or other formal Black Tie evening functions.

The silk used for this faille has a double warp that is so expensive and difficult to execute that it is hardly ever employed anymore. Because it is so very complicated and labor-intensive to produce this fabric, we have to sell it at a slightly higher cost than other materials, like our satin or barathea bow ties.
