Raphael had the initial idea for this collection after admiring vintage animal motifs on his closet's hardware. He shared this idea with our master jewelry maker, who tracked down animal imagery from a variety of sources to fuel his imagination. He looked at vintage cufflinks, iconic clothing, and even real animals at his local zoo!
Inspired by all that he had seen, our master jeweler set to work creating the designs for our cufflinks. He progressed through several iterations, working closely with Raphael and the entire Gentleman's Gazette team until achieving a distinctive, versatile, and elegant look that was uniquely Fort Belvedere.
After settling on a design, it was time for our master jeweler to create the models for each animal pairing. He did this by first hand-carving the design in hard green wax. He then used this wax to create a mold, from which the cufflinks were cast.
After this long process, our cufflinks were finally ready for final production!
