These gloves are very soft to the touch I was worried they wouldn’t be because of the touchscreen aspect. They look, smell, and feel great. They fit perfectly I’d suggest going a half size down for that fit like a glove fit. They keep my hands warm in the cold mornings and overall I’m very happy with my purchase.

Dress Day Glove Etiquette

Dress gloves can be worn at any time of the year in any setting. In warmer months, consider purchasing unlined gloves so that your hands do not become overheated.

Day dress gloves were traditionally worn in a wide array of colors in addition to traditional leather tones. Popular options included light gray, green, yellow, petrol blue, and even orange.

Always take your gloves off before shaking hands. In a formal setting or upon entering someone’s home, you should remove your gloves.

When indoors, remove your gloves if you are eating, drinking, or smoking. It is considered polite to remove your gloves before handling anything that might be soiled by them, like food or paper.

When not wearing your gloves, never stuff them into your pockets as this can look sloppy. Instead, lay them flatly together, one on top of the other, and hold them or place them beside you on a flat surface.

Beautiful Burgundy

The color burgundy boasts a rich heritage in classic menswear, standing as one of the most opulent and attractive hues at your disposal. It exudes sophistication and romance, ideal for dispelling the chill of a brisk day. Burgundy gloves, in particular, were favored by French gentlemen in the late 19th century before taking the world by storm throughout the early 20th century.

The particular shade of burgundy selected for this pair of gloves was chosen because it will pair effortlessly with an extremely wide array of colors. Thanks to its red base, you will have no trouble harmonizing with warm tones but also with browns, blues, and greens. For the greatest visual pop, consider selecting colors for your outerwear garments, such as scarves, hats, and coats, in the following shades that appear especially elegant with burgundy.

Cream and beige offer a subtle contrast, softening the boldness of burgundy with their light, airy presence. For a more natural and earthy palette, olive green blends seamlessly, evoking the serenity of a timeless forest.

In the realm of cooler tones, navy blue stands as a dignified partner, providing a classic harmony that is both striking and grounded. Meanwhile, dusty rose whispers of romance and nostalgia, creating a delicate dance of color with burgundy's more profound notes. Charcoal gray offers a modern twist, lending a sleek and contemporary edge without overpowering the richness of burgundy.

What's your glove size?

To determine your glove size, simply measure your dominant hand around the fullest section of the palm.

As implied by the expression “to fit like a glove,” dress gloves were traditionally worn with a relatively tight fit to appear as trim and elegant as possible. Therefore, if you are in-between sizes, we generally recommend sizing down: as the leather stretches, it will conform perfectly to your hand’s dimensions.

Exquisite Lamb Nappa

Lamb nappa is a type of soft, full-grain leather that is crafted from the hides of young sheep. This leather is famed for its suppleness and smooth texture, which makes it an ideal choice for luxurious sartorial accessories. Lamb nappa is not only prized for its elegance and buttery feel but also for its durability, despite being lightweight and thin. Its fine grain provides a natural uniform appearance favored by connoisseurs.

Decadent Cashmere Lining

Cashmere is renowned for its exceptional properties, which make it an excellent choice for lining luxury gloves. Cashmere fibers are exceptionally soft against the skin, providing a feeling of indulgence every time you slip on the gloves. Despite its lightness, cashmere provides excellent insulation, keeping your hands warm and cozy even in the chilliest weather. It naturally allows your skin to breathe, preventing any discomfort from sweat buildup. When well cared for, cashmere maintains its shape and texture over time, ensuring that your gloves remain a cherished accessory for years.

Leather Maintenance

All leathers employed by Fort Belvedere have been carefully sourced and tanned for longevity and durability, but there are simple steps that you can take to keep your gloves looking their best and feeling as comfortable as possible for years to come.

Cleaning

If a portion of your gloves gets wet, it may develop water stains. If an area of your gloves is darker than the rest after getting wet and then drying, wet the entire glove with clean water and then allow it to air dry for several days. The gloves will then be returned to their uniform appearance.

In most cases, your gloves can be washed with just clean water. If you want to use a cleanser, we suggest a dedicated glove-leather cleaner or a very mild product like baby soap or shampoo. Never use artificial cleaners.

Never wring your gloves dry. Instead, lay the gloves flat with the fingers extended on a towel and layer another towel on top to remove excess water. Then, air dry the gloves for a few days, keeping them clear of artificial heat sources like a radiator, hair dryers, and the like, because they could discolor or damage the leather.

Note that after cleaning, your gloves may feel slightly stiff. Simply wear them regularly to break them back in and they shall return to their previous softness.

Storage

After wearing your gloves, store them flat with the fingers stretched out. Never leave your gloves balled up or crumpled.

Details & Specs

Light Tan Lamb Nappa Touchscreen Gloves with Denim Blue Contrast and Scarf
  • Ten-Finger Touchscreen Capability

From phones to navigation systems, touchscreens are everywhere nowadays. Recognizing that it can be a hassle to remove your gloves every time you want to use a touchscreen device, we set out to develop gloves that were touchscreen functional. After experimenting with coatings on the inside of the gloves and not being satisfied with the results, we found that the best solution was to add a touchscreen-enabling substance directly to the leather during the tanning and dyeing process. This coating makes the gloves extremely responsive to touchscreens, but it does impart a slightly stiffer feel to the glove leather.

  • Superior Italian Leather

Italy is renowned for its artisanal leather production, and these gloves are an example of this ancient heritage. Proper glove leather must be soft but durable, flexible but structured, and we have sourced a lamb nappa leather that does all of this is, and is exceptionally soft.

  • Hand-Sewn Gloves

Sewn by Hungarian artisans who can only be described as glove-making virtuosos, these gloves are truly a work of art. Each pair takes hours to complete, and the clear pride that our craftsmen feel in their work is evident from the attentive detail that they lavish on every step of the sewing process.

  • Traditional Button Closure

To ensure a good seal at the throat and a close fit overall, gloves historically featured a button closure at the wrist. As a cost-saving measure, this functionality has practically disappeared, but at Fort Belvedere, we are proud to reintroduce this important feature. Wrapped in leather, our button closure ensures that the glove sits tightly on the wrist so it lies neatly under your sleeve. For a dash of sprezzatura charm, however, you can leave your gloves nonchalantly unbuttoned for a more rakish appearance.

  • Elegant Fourchette Detailing

Dynamic diagonal lines, known as fourchettes, have been a traditional decoration on the backs of men's gloves for centuries. Imparting a strong sense of movement and action, our fourchettes are hand sewn and subtly create visual interest that sets you apart as a connoisseur of glove-making.

  • Quirks for Mobility

To increase the range of finger movement, the best glove makers add triangular segments of leather between the fingers that are called quirks. Quirks are a hallmark of superior craftsmanship and their inclusion is always indicative of exceptional product design. We like to make these quirks contrast-colored for an unexpected pop of color that highlights this unique glove feature.

  • Cashmere Lined

Alpaca and cashmere are the two best linings for gloves, the former being generally warmer and the latter being generally softer. Because these are dress-day gloves not necessarily intended for extreme temperatures, we decided to line this pair in deliciously soft cashmere. Left in its natural mottled oatmeal color, this cashmere was spun, plied, finished, and knitted in Italy according to our exacting standards to ensure a proper fit and maximum comfort.
