Pocket squares are one of the easiest and quickest ways to improve the overall look of your outfit, but it all depends on the elegance, timelessness, and versatility of the pocket square: not
all are created equal! While most pocket squares are made from cheap synthetics in simple colors or garish designs.
Fort Belvedere is proud to offer a range of different materials in silk, wool, or blends thereof. And while other pocket squares have their hems finished by machines, all of our pocket squares are meticulously hand-rolled, with the embroidery work done by hand.
Most significantly, nearly all other pocket squares are too small because they are simply cut to get the biggest yield from the piece of fabric it is made off. At Fort Belvedere we determine the
size of each square by the specific fabric used so you end up with the perfectly sized pocket square that will neither disappear in your chest pocket nor create any bulk.
A pocket square cannot improve your look if it vanishes into your pocket or spoils the lines of your jacket, after all!
Pocket squares are one of the simplest ways to effortlessly elevate your look. Once you have mastered the plain white linen pocket square and the squares with colored edges, which have the greatest versatility, you should expand your wardrobe with pocket squares in different materials and textures.
Popularized during the 19th century, madder silk is famed for its rich, decadent colors and unique, tactile hand. Genuine madder silk, however, is increasingly difficult to find nowadays, but Fort Belvedere was able to secure a supply from a heritage silk mill operating in England.
Stunning Hand-Printed Colors. When printing pocket squares, it is necessary to reprint the entire pocket as many times as there are colors, adding each color as a distinct layer with each printing. Obviously, multiple printings allow for the possibility of errors or mistakes, necessitating exacting quality assurance standards. The result, however, is a hand-printed pocket square with beautiful and versatile colorways that will ensure that you stand out from the crowd. Only a handful of modern silk printers possess the skills needed to operate traditional silk screens and Fort Belvedere sources its fabric from a small English company that produces only the highest quality printed fabrics.
Heavy-Weight Silk. The weight and weave of the fabric dictate its quality and function, and this unique pocket square has been woven with a heavier-weight fabric to ensure the perfect drape
without compromising its soft feel. As a result, it will sit neatly in the breast pocket without collapsing and vanishing.
Perfectly Sized for Silk-Wool. Most pocket squares are sized to get the largest number of pocket squares per yard of fabric. By not considering the unique qualities of the material as related to weight and weave, however, these accessories cannot function well as pocket squares.
Most silk-wool pocket squares are a minuscule 30 cm x 30 cm, or 12" x 12,” a size selected only to save money. This size is simply too small, allowing the pocket square to fall in on itself and disappear into your pocket over the course of the day. By paying special attention to the unique qualities of our silk-wool, we were able to engineer a pocket square that functions perfectly. After extensive testing, we concluded that 42 cm x 42 cm or 16.25" x" 16.25" was the perfect size for our silk-wool pocket squares.
Utilizing unique and interesting folds imparts greater versatility, as well as debonair elegance, to your pocket square. Ensuring that your folds appear natural and unaffected will not only look more charming and nonchalant, but it will also be evident to others that you are not wearing a cheap, pre-folded pocket square.
To help you look the part of a timeless Classic gentleman, we created a video that details with simple instructions how you can fold eight of our favorite pocket square folds.

Silk-wool pocket square maintenance
Although popularly considered a delicate material, silk is a very strong fiber that resists wrinkling. However, if left folded up for hours or days, creasing and wrinkles will eventually set in. To prevent creasing and wrinkling, remove your pocket square when undressing and fold it into a square before storing it in a cool, dark area, like a drawer or cabinet, to protect it from sunlight and dust. If heavily crumpled, you should first attempt to use a garment steamer on a low setting to relax the wrinkles. If the wrinkles persist, place a cotton cloth on top of your pocket square and then iron on top of it around the center, using the delicate setting. Do not run the iron over the edges of the pocket square as this will damage the hand-rolled edges.
