No Black Tie ensemble is complete without some kind of waist covering. Unless you are wearing a double-breasted evening jacket, and intend to keep it buttoned all night, to be in keeping with conventions you must wear either a formal evening waistcoat, made of black fabric and cut with a lowered buttoning stance, or a cummerbund, which, since the middle of the 20th century, has been the preferred Black Tie waist covering.

1. Top Quality Italian Moire silk - Fort Belvedere sources the luxurious silk Moiré from a renowned Italian silk mill. Basically, it is a woven silk Faille, Grosgrain or Repp fabric, which is then pushed through a press, giving it this very renowned watered silk effect, which is appreciated by menswear connoisseurs. Today, it is very rare to find quality Moiré fabrics anymore, and even rarer to actually find a matching cummerbund and bow tie made of the same material. Moiré is perfect for the person who has already mastered basic black tie accessories and who now wants to take the next step

2. Handmade - This cummerbund is entirely made by hand with a special cotton interlining that enhances the look of the cummerbund. After many prototypes, Sven Raphael Schneider decided on this design because it is classic, with a comfortable closure, yet flexible. As such it is also perfectly suited for musicians, conductors or just stylish men who enjoy proper black tie accessories...

3. One Size fits it all - we use elastic inserts, so the cummerbund fits perfectly and comfortably at all times, no matter if you walk, sit or stand. The silk area is 62 cm x 15cm or 24.5" x 6" at the widest point so your waistband is covered in silk, and your shirt will not poke out on the side.

4. Unique Lustre - this Moiré silk has a watered silk look with a special lustre in combination with a dull background Repp surface.Simply superb and ideal for someone who wants to add that special touch to their tuxedo or dinner jacket. Make sure to also get the matching Moire bow tie for the best effect.

Outside of the traditions of certain clubs and military organizations, the cummerbund is always worn with the pleats facing upwards. You may find this easier to remember with the silly pneumonic that your cummerbund should be oriented like a “crumb catcher.”

This cummerbund features an elastic loop that should be secured to the button of your trousers. Doing so will securely hold the cummerbund in its proper position and ensure that it does not ride up as you move.

To be in keeping with Classic style conventions, your bow tie should be made from the same fabric as your cummerbund.
